    Ipod third party software?

    Hi Guys
I just bought an Ipod Classic 80gig player and am wondering if there is third party software to let it play other formats of music other than I tunes?
And can I use this as a storage device ?

For some reason I cant get the search function to work here on the forums.
    Thanks!

I can answer the question about storage.

Yes. It can be used as a storage device, although the items you put on it for storage are not seen in the iPod's internal system. Think of it as an external HD or pendrive. You'll see it show up that way on your system when you attach it via USB cable.

How much are you wiling to do?
You can replace the Ipod OS with PodLinux and have increased functionality, or, if you mess up, an expensive paperweight.

Use MediaMonkey. It's free and syncs up beautifully with my iPlod.

I use Anapod. Its perfect as you just use it like an explorer box. Drag/Drop. Alter invididual or multiple songs at once. Its great.

Only problem I've ever had was that iTunes wiped the whole lot when I plugged it into another computer and tried to play music using iTunes. I was very mad!

I prefer MM to Anapod personally, but they're both LEAGUES beyond iTunes.

From what I hear you lose a lot of battery life with rockbox, not sure why...

It does offer more formats, but doesn't play DRM'd music, so you can't play the stuff you bought from the itunes store (if you bought anything). Personally, I never buy DRM'd music.

That's what I use. Everything's in a database which is easily editable. It also allows you to stream music from your iPod over your network. I haven't had any problems with iTunes so far.

I plugged it into my sisters laptop so she could listen to some music and when I took it back out and plugged it into my car, it wouldn't play anything. Then I looked and the whole thing was empty

The Anapod streaming is awesome too!
