Hey guys, I'm thinking about building soonish(2 months or so) but I'm already looking into things and perhaps it's a bad idea as prices may go down but I may build it sooner than 2 months that's just a rough idea. Anyhow, I play FPS games and RTS games more than anything but I'd use this rig for movies and music as well.

I know that video card, ram and processor aren't the best but this is just to get the machine up and running. The ram will be swapped and new cards will get installed weeks after the initial build. I already have a Soundblaster X Fi Platinum and hard drives so I was wondering what you guys think of the items picked out. I hope this is the right section for this, if not flame me :)

This should have been in the general section...SORRY GUYS! :(

would drop the cpu to a E44 or E45 to save some money to go to a beter video card. what case is that ddr3? why ddr3, when ddr2 is so much cheaper right now?

I don't understand why you are planning to swap out the cpu/ram/video in a few weeks after the initial build? You can get better components cheaper now without having to buy new stuff later.

Ditch DDR3 it is overpriced and useless right now. Go with 2x2GB DDR2 PC8000 or PC8500.
example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...052315794+1052417523&name=DDR2+1000+(PC2+8000)

Ditch this abomination of a card. Go with a 8800GT or 8800GTS 512MB.

I would go with E8400 or X3110

E145-2036 :: EVGA nForce 790i Ultra SLI Motherboard - NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI, Socket 775, ATX, Audio, PCI Express 2.0, SLI Ready, S/PDIF, USB 2.0, Firewire, eSATA, RAID (4.85 lbs)

Unless you want to eventually run dual video cards (SLI), I would ditch this and get a better board for the money. Asus Maximum Formula, or Asus P5K Premium. The money you save here you can put towards a better video card.

I would buy the case and PSU separate.

This is a nice and popular full tower

I'll let someone else comment on PSU though.

The reason I chose that video card is because it's temporary, I will be running Tri SLI(Probably and that ram with be swapped with 4GB(DDR3) from OCZ. I'm starting to think that Quad Core is a better idea though but I don't want to shell out the 1000+ for the premium =/ But I'm willing to shell out 1500 for cards later, hmm...does that make sense? Haha.

Oh and GTEngineer, that's a completely different case that you linked me to, I like the features of the Stacker 830 more than any other case I've looked at and it runs $279 so I might as well pay the extra 80 bucks for the CM PSU(I hope it's rated accurately for those 1,000watts).

If you want a cheap video card look at a 8800GS. They can be found for ~$110 after rebate.

No sense in getting an extreme processor. The Q6600 has a lot of value per dollar. The the Q9450 is starting to show up as well. I still like the Q6600 on a value basis. Even if you wanted to stay with a dual go with an E8400 over the 6850.

As others have mentioned DDR3 is not worth the cost premium associated with it.

I think you would be much better off waiting until you are ready to do your final build and do it right the first time.

I appreciate the help guys, thanks! As someone mentioned in this thread, I'll probably wait until I decide I really want the comp and then build it. Things will probably be cheaper too.
