I think it depends on the game engine. I can play Crysis fine with 20FPS min, but I prefer at least 40 FPS in FEAR, otherwise I find it stutters.

i dont have a sli board or a crossfire board only a single slot and my biggest thing is if i got a x2 card will i be able to use it to its full potential or is it just going to be a waste and that i should just get myself a 4870 instead? and is 29fps very playable in a game?

For a single PCIe slot card, you have 2 choices right now for a good performing card: 9800GX2 for about $400, or wait for the 4870X2 which I expect to land at $550-$600 but that's pure speculation.

A single 4850 or 9800GTX will be 'OK' but you won't be maxing Crysis at 1680x1050..

29 FPS playable? Is that 29 FPS minimum, maximum, average? If average, what's the minimum? If minimum, what's the average? If maximum, hell no.

yeah good point, i didn't specify. I meant 35 minimum. well actually make that 30fps minimum for me. Anything over 30 FPS is smooth in my eyes. And its not like there won't be parts with 50fps or more

I still stand by my opinion that Real world results OWN synthetic benchmarks.

Just because 3dMarkXX states you got 19034230429340234023492 FPS doesnt mean that you will get similar results in a game.

Personally low end 8800 320
8800 512
then look at what is new and go from there.

Then again I play EvE online and NO FPS.

There is a window you can open on EVE to view FPS actually :p

With my setup I get 170-300 fps on EVE online 1920x1200 max settings. (with one 8800gts I get 120-220)

I would pick up a HD4870 or a 9800gtx+ if you can wait :D

Yeah I pop it up every once in a while but I have yet to have any issues with my 320 in Eve.

And that is with a premium AND classic client running side by side on two monitors.
