@Fallen: I think you have forgotten to take into account what OS he/she is using. If it is a 32bit operating system I believe it can only address 3GB of RAM so adding an extra gig would do sweet FA.

@OP: What will you be using the rig for? I.E Gaming, Word Processing...

    Dual Booting Ubuntu and XP
    Asus M2N32 WS Pro
    AMD X2 4200 (OC'd 2856MHz @ 1.4V)
    2GB Corsair PC5300 RAM (4X512MB)
    XFX 8800GTS 320Mb
    FSP 500W Bluestorm II PSU
    160GB WD SATAII Hard Drive

I'd go with an E8400 or Q6600 and a P35 board like the Abit IP35-E, Abit IP35-Pro, or Gigabyte P35-DS3L. If you are really into gaming I'd get an 8800GTS but if you are not so into it get a 9600GT.

    AMD 3600+ Brisbane - Abit NF-M2 Nview
    P4 2.8C @ 3094 - ECS PT880 NEO MB - ATI 9800 Pro
    AMD 1700+ @ 2272 - Epox 8RGA+
    AMD T-Bird 1400 @ 1650

    Like I said...

    9600GT - $130
    8800GT - $150
    8800GTS - $200

All are good, just depends on the budget.
