So I know that a RAW picture isn't yet a rendered file so windows explorer can't properly display a thumbnail of it in folder view. But I did a little googling and found some programs that can do that for me in addition to a Microsoft update which enable windows explorer to do it as well. I would like to not install any additional software to do this so I went ahead and got the MS update. But after it made me install .NET 1.1 and did a reboot I still can't see the RAW thumbnails. I thought it might be a problem I ran into before and did RUN-> regsvr32 shimgvw.dll but that didn't do anything. So now I'm out of ideas...anyone?

Oops, I forgot to mention that. I'm running XP. I did download the plugin, but it doesn't seem to want to work.

what RAW format, nikon, Canon? since they are diff...

honestly use a 3rd party, Canon has a cd with your camera likely to view raw i beleive...

Well, I have a Powershot S3IS. It doesn't shoot RAW in stock mode, but with CHDK firmware it can take and save RAW formats. I have it saving to a .crw format but it can also do the .cr2 format. So I don't have a CD with any software, which 3rd party do you suggest?

I was looking for the same thing, RAW thumbnail support in XP. I tried the link Mr.Guvernment supplied with no luck. However, in my searching I found a way that worked for me (and maybe you too if nothing else has):

1) Download and install this (it says it's for vista but it works for XP too):

2) Download and install this:

PS: I got this from another forum, found here:
