On my main computer, i cant get to profile.ea.com or customersupport.ea.com

Firefox and IE bring up a network timout error

I can successfully ping those websites, but i cant tracert. It times out on all the hops after the default gateway. Sometimes it even times out going to the default gateway.

Code:
Tracing route to profile.ea.com [159.153.234.77]

over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1 * * * Request timed out.

  2 * * * Request timed out.

  3 * * * Request timed out.

Tracing route to ea.com [159.153.234.85]

over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1 * * * Request timed out.

  2 * * * Request timed out.

  3 * * * Request timed out.

Now i cant even get to EA.com

This is the only known website that doesnt work.

Because of this, i cannot play Red Alert 3 beta because it has to connect with EA to make sure i have a license.

Now the weird thing is, i CAN get to these websites no problem on my other computer. I have just reformatted and reinstalled Windows Vista on the problem computer. The only thing i can think of is the EA downloader is causing problems. uninstalling doesnt work. Thats the only difference between computers. Both Windows Vista Ultimate.

heres the tracert on the other computer:
Code:

over a maximum of 30 hops:

have you checked your hosts file?

long shot, but its a start.

have you tried using a static IP and DNS server? also, is the dns server your router? what about your default gateway?

and lastly off the top of my head

the ever so dreaded Windows Firewall, please disable this :) of or if you have a 3rd party software firewall disable and try again

EA support was not helpful at all, they just said to go to their website to register the game even though i told them i couldnt. Google was no help, i couldnt find this problem.

Host file is normal, i tried putting in an entry for the website, but it didnt work.

All firewalls disabled. no peerguardian.

I even setup a DMZ on my router to the computer.

I dont think this is a router/DNS problem because my other computer has the exact same settings and it works perfectly.

Both computers are using my WRT54g with DD-WRT on it for DNS/DHCP/gateway.

I can use a proxy, but because of all the flash/css/other stuff on the ea.com website, i cant login to it.

EDIT: Comcast support said it isnt their problem so they wont do anything.

please try pinging the IP address first before you add proxies :)

see if you have base level connectivity to EA.com via 159.153.234.77 or 159.153.234.85

also, what happenes when you put the IP into the web browser?

i can successfully ping ea.com.

if i put the ip(159.153.234.85) in the address bar, same thing happens, "network timeout"
The server at 159.153.234.85 is taking too long to respond.

And if i use a browser based proxy, thats not going to really fix my problem. Red Alert 3 still wont be able to contact the EA servers.

Just seeing if this issue has been resolved.
If not, try contacting EA to see if maybe your IP was blocked?
Sometimes people under dynamic addresses get stuck with someones who didn't follow the rules.

sorry, i just posted saying its a dns issue when it is not.. i mis read your original post. and i done a lookup from here and it seems it is resolving fine.

have you tried restarting the pc? i know it sounds silly, but i frequently have network issues on my vista work laptop. its a pain when your at clients sites.

if i were you, i would undo any changes you made to your hosts file,
then try to go here: http://159.153.234.77/ on the machine that isnt working.

let me know how you get on. i'll watch the topic so i can help when i can.
this is a strange one :p

your right, but if his ip was blocked, then every pc under his public ip will not have access to EA. and he stated that one pc on his network CAN get access, and another CAN'T.. so this throws this out the window.

there is a fix, for a situation like yours. please open up command prompt on the broken vista machine and type the following

netsh winsock reset

i believe that this should fix your crazy issue - make sure you RESTART afterwards :)

this didnt work either, i tried it a couple times just to make sure.

Could EA block my computer's MAC address? I have tried different nics, and a new motherboard, but i still cant register any games or get to the EA site. Right now im at a friends place using his internet, and its the same problem.

WTF is going on? I mean if a complete reinstall of Vista didnt work, then nothing will. The only thing it could be is the EA download manager messing something up on my computer, maybe changing routes or something.

Could it be that EA only allows one computer per account? The last computer i could connect to EA is the only one it allows? I'll go make a new account, but i dont think that will fix the problem.

Come on people, we need to think outside the box on this problem!!!

I'll do anything to get this working, anything....

have you got anything like google toolbar, or any other toolbar - they always mess up machines..

did you say you had done a fresh install??
because your going through a router, EA will only see the router ip not yours, so if they blocked your IP then everything from your LAN would not be able to get to EA website.

EA cannot see mac addresses from you, mac addresses dont travel the internet..

did you try to go to that ip i posted?

do you have things like flash or whateever installed?

what is this download manager?

i just seen that EA's office is in chertsey, surrey. like 20 mins from where i live.. i'll go and slap them for you :D

Solution Found

After spending almost a day to figure out the solution to this problem, finally I found it.

In Vista you have used some sort of internet speed Acceleration software, in my case "Stardock tweakVista", just go back and reset your internet speed to default, and every thing will work like magic.

Let me know if it does work for you, it did for me.

I have the same problem now. I can't get onto the EA profile or EA support site. I haven't used any accelerator software, but have the following settings set in Win7:

netsh int tcp set global rss=enabled
netsh int tcp set global chimney=automatic
netsh int tcp set global netdma=enabled
netsh int tcp set global dca=enabled
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal
netsh int tcp set global congestionprovider=ctcp
netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=enabled
netsh int tcp set global timestamps=disabled

Could any of these cause the problem?
