So I've finally been allowed to build a bench rig for the shop I'm working at.
P5GC-MX mobo, meh no-name PSU (taken from a midtower case I was going to use but the Assistant said not to...why pull the PSU and not use the case?), HDD and optical drive.

I'm not even able to get into BIOS before it shuts down (can't even boot from a CD to install an OS). No error mesages, it just dies...restarts fine only to have the same thing happen.

The same thing happened to the previous system that was in this case; my first thought was the PSU but there are no others to be had here so I'm unable to test that particular theory. No multimeter either.

Ideas?

Can you hook up a PSU so that it just hangs outside of the case?

If that doesn't work, it may be a grounding issue...
