Another Jolly Swagman Mod
Project - PSU Relocation & Case Mod
This project came about, after upgrading the Wife's PC I then Had a
Motherboard / CPU / Ram / PSU that needed a new home.
So in my cupboard was an Old P111 ATX case, once used as my Server box.
So after inspection, came to the conclusion that the PSU where it originally
mounted would be in the way of the skt 775 HSF, and also if an after market
HSF was to be used latter, there was insufficient room for them.
Also there needed to be better ventilation in this case as was now going
to be used as a folding rig for Rosetta@home.
So out to the Garage to find what I need to do the alterations, and came across
some 12mm x12mm aluminium angle and some 20gauge tin plate sheet.
Now the only ideal location for the for the PSU to be relocated was below the
Drive bay area towards the bottom of case.
1/ measured and cut the alu angle to make a mounting point to take pSU.
also fabricated PSU mount from the 20 gauge sheet metal.
2/ Installed these with the use of 1/8"pop rivets
Now with the PSU installed and Hardware back in.
Edit := Forgot to Mention, I had to Extend the 4pin Motherboard Power Supply lead
3/ Installed intake Fan where the old PSU mouting was using some MDF
4/ Mod the Case Cover for PSU new area. also installed Exhaust Blow-hole in top of case
Rear view of Old PSU position with intake fan, and Side with New PSU mount Area
Front Case view
OS installed and now all done for another Rosetta@home Rig and takes its place beneath my test desk in the spare room.
PC Specs
M/B - Asus P5GZ-MX
CPU - P4 541HT 3.2Ghz 800fsb
2 x 1Gig ddr2 677
Sansung 40Gig IDE HDD
