similar specs, need advice

hi all,
im a n00b. i found this thread on google searching for oc results for my similar upcoming build. anyone have any advice or predictions for clocking a machine with the specs in my sig?

im not sure about the 6gb 1333mhz ddr3 memory being compatible or if i should have spent $30 more for similar 1600mhz
http://shop4.frys.com/product/5820723

and finally .. will it play crysis?(j/k but not really) thanks!

The motherboard you have is the DDR2 version, if you want DDR3 you'll need the EP45T-UD3P.

I would probably opt for a different PSU as well, like the Corsair HX 520.

typo. it IS an EP45T-UD3P. I knew the mobo box said DDR3 when i bought the RAM.
Thanks for the advice on the power supply, I saw that suggested after I had already bought it, but it was a good deal. If the Volcano 630w power supply isn't sufficient I will upgrade later. Do you think with that 'cheapo' power supply, I can get it to play Crysis well(high or very high) on a 1680x1050 res lcd?

I'm going to also post the below questions in the memory section.

does anyone have any experience with this CORSAIR DDR3 RAM TR3X6G1333C9

should I have gotten this similar 1600MHZ for $30 more TR3X6G1600C9

Should be np and for games like crysis ddr3 is supposed to give a measureable boost over ddr2.
The Q8200 is supposed to have the lowest power consumption of all the intel quads, tho I only bought mine cos I got a good deal.

I've been searching alot on forums and cudnt find anything like this thread.. im glad i found it, now u guys can help me out.. Im new here and just started posting..
I have a Q8200 overclocked to 3.3ghz OCCT stable.
Now i want to go higher but im having stability issues, i see some of you people have OC'ed it to 3.5ghz...
Anyways, i get crashes and system freezes.. I have a Corsair DHX 2GB 800Mhz rams (2x1gb).
Is my ram holding me back?
People with 3.5ghz on the Q8200, what rams are you using? 1066mhz?

thanks in advance :)

what timings does the ram have? as it stands for 3.5ghs on the Q8200 your going to need 500mhz fsb, that means you need DDR2-1000 or higher rated ram. now if you have cas4 DDR2-800 then you have some head room to work with. it will required testing, such that you will need to up the ram ratio. as you will also need to loosen the timings (if at cas4) to cas5. if your already at cas5 and dont want to buy more ram you could try cas6 or cas7. which wouldnt be ideal but would get you to 3.5ghz cpu speed.

what do your temps look like on that hs? just wondering since i have seen any reviews of it so im not sure how it stacks up to our suggested ones.

My ram timings are 5-5-5-18.
The max they overclock to is 950mhz from 800mhz.
I have tried out 6-6-6-20 still cud not get it above 3.3ghz.

Silent knight is a pretty good HSF... As the temps of my Q8200 idle around 50 and overclocked at 3.3ghz and 100% load the max is 68-70.

Are KICK and STEVEN active members???

hmmm well your temps are really high under load. you want to be at 60c or lower for load temps. that might be a source of being unstable at higher clocks. what kind of voltage are you putting thru the cpu for 3.3ghz?

as for kick his profile says last active 4-4-09,steven was last active at 4:04am today. steven hopefully will chime in soon...

^I've looked around for temps on the Q8200 and this is normal for this chip. Considering no matter how much your overclock they only jump upto 20 degrees.
for 3.3ghz my cpu voltage is 1.33v.

I recently up from 3.36GHz to 3.40GHz and fine tuned voltage in BIOS to 1.30v
Look at my spreadsheet SHADED in GREEN and see if it may helps.

...as you can see my idle/load temps on 3.40ghz is much higher than 3.36ghz because I swapped out Cooler Master's original fan for a quieter fan which spins at 1500rpm max.
IDLE/Load temps is about the same of 3.36ghz if CM's original fan was used.

Thank you soo much for your effort.. :)
I will try this out... btw, you have 1066mhz rams right? or 800mhz??

And could you please post which cooler are you using?
Im using the silent knight 2 but yours is much better.

With Q8200 I have 4GB Patriot PC8500 1066mhz 555-15 @ 2.1v stock.

If you look at my signature and click on the Q8200_OC, it will take you to thread that I tested at 3.36GHz and has a picture of my cooler CM Z600R with its original fan on it.

^Aiite bro.. thanks. Now can you tell me, I got corsair 800mhz sticks from someone just to test, they have timings of 5-5-5-12 @ 2.1v by default.
Now if i run them at 4-4-4-12, wat voltage should i keep, when they start getting unstable?

Hey SamSaveMax, tell me something bro... for 3.3ghz my vCore is 1.33.. the rest are mostly as your excel file says.... but i dont keep my vFsb on auto... what value should i keep for that???
And yes... i bought myself.. 4gbz of Kingston HyperX 1066mhz 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2v default.
Atm im running at 1066 5-5-5-18 @ 1.9v
