WS,

I'm not saying the Fortron is junk at all, it's just getting long in the tooth and there are better choices for the same or less money. The main purpose of Diaz's thread is to have the new guys or those with questions look at his list and buy without any reservations. He's done a fine job so far.

I never meant for you to think I was second guessing you, just thought the Blue Storm should be on the list. I think it is a nice unit... for the price.

WS,

Not at all! We are in a fair discussion with opinions. I'm not qualified enough to state a "yes or no" either so I suggested to Diaz to PM OW and S/N for their conclusions on any units he has in question.

Of course when we find a great sale and a person is on a very tight budget, there will be quite a few not on the list that would work.

He was just explaining why it didn't make it on the list ;)

Your suggestion is great, but it does not meet the requirements to make it on THIS list. This list is meant to be a garantee that by choosing one of the PSU's, you will NOT have to worry about quality/performance at all, even when pushed to the limits.

just an idea, but...vote sticky anyone? :)

this seems really important for anyone looking to buy a new PSU, especially those that aren't familiar or specialised in PSUs etc.

also helping me to decide which PSU to buy next

i have to look for reviews but for the sub 500watt group, these should be in there.

Antec EA380
Antec EA430
(i think it was OW that said the EA line is all seasonic based)

Corsair 400CX
Corsair 450VX

I would like some clarity on the makers of all teh Corsair line. I know some are Seasonic, and some are Channel Well... (should I make another thread?)

Another one to add to the non-modular 800+ watt recommended list is the BFG ES-800. Paul Johnson at [H] Enthusiast gave it a Editor's Choice Gold Award in his review of this psu. It has very good efficiency across it's whole power delivery spectrum and can be used with no problems with no load on the 3.3 and 5 v rails. Finally, when you register it with BFG after buying it you get a lifetime warrantee too.

And I have seen some great deals on these occasionally lately also, with them coming in at under $100 after rebate.

On Great Links I suggest to add Hardware Secrets and PCPer too.
Hardware Canucks is another great site but lately SKYMTL takes a break from reviewing PSU's. :)
For a list of PSU's and their OEM take a look at this thread. Makalu did a wonderful job.

Will if OW approves.

Done.

dunno how SPCR ranks for doing psu reviews but they have the corsair 650TX reviewed here.

Done.

Well I don't know if this one is too old for your list, or maybe being so old and still runs 4 HD's and 2 Opt. After nearly 5 years it should be at the top. LOL.

Antec True Control 550w with external voltage pots. Manually adjustable fan speed, and thermo adjustable fan power outlets. (includes a front panel plate and mini screw driver)

Only main drawbacks in using this current day, its only a 20pin connector, its not modular, and uses a 4pin motherboard plug instead of the new standard 6pin.

anyone had any experience with the antec truepowertrio?
theres a deal on frys for a 650watt powersupply for 50+shipping

Can you add Q-Tec Gold series to the avoid list? Ive had at least 2 blow up in my face for no reason whatsoever, and several reports of them going. Also 2 Sumvisions have popped on me, again no real reason.

P.S. One of the Q-Tecs was me asking the customer what PSU it was he had when he told me it had pooped on him, after he told me I advised him never to buy Q-Tecs as they are awful, to which he replied "I bought it here mate"

I wont say which store I was working in at the time
