    USB flash drive - slow transfer problem all of a sudden?

    I have a 16GB flash drive and when I'm copying files, speed varies from high 40s mb/sec to single digits mb/sec. Why is it not consistent?

    is this one large file or various size files that you're transferring?
    AMD Phenom II X4 965BE, Asus M5A88-V Evo, 8GB Mushkin Blackline DDR3-1600 , Coolermaster Hyper212+, OCZ Vertex Plus 60GB, Seagate 7200.11 500GB, Antec EA-380

    sometime few hundred megs and sometimes few gigs

    i forgot to ask, transferring to the key or transferring from?
    do you have other USB devices on the system in use?

    Im kind of interested in this too. I have a sandisk cruzer and with most systems I transfer at least 15 m/s but on my laptop I get maybe 7 ot 8.
