If you're gonna play with your colors, you should at least post the color codes next to the colors, Adak. So other people can see the codes without having to quote your post. ;)

Play is fun, not work! :p :p

Chimp Challenge FAQ
================

* Fold under your own folding name, in the race. Be sure to use 32 as your team number.

* Qualified passkeys are the key to HUGE bonus points. If you don't have one, get it here:
123http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/getpasskey.py

Don't share your passkey - it ID's you to Folding@Home.

* To qualify for the HUGE bonus points you MUST have:

123451) A passkey

123452) With 10 work units completed successfully

123453) With at least an 80% success rate.

For maximum points, you need a qualified passkey at the start of the race!

* Race Starts on April 13th, At Noon, Pacific Daylight Savings Time (-7 UTC). Race Ends on April 23rd, at Noon.

* We'll be updating race results, throughout the race. At least two web sites will have direct race updates. Features are
123still being worked on, atm.

* This is a handicap race, with nine teams competing. We are a small sized team, but we fold like

G-I-A-N-T-S

To do that, we need YOU and every bit of support you can give us, for ten days. It's all about a team coming together, for this one event.

*We won last year, and we L-O-V-E winning! Folding@Home's research project is always the real winner.

Odd thing about racing - the harder you try to win, the more you enjoy the race. This is without a doubt, the funnest thing you'll ever do in folding!

This is looking like quite the list of Folding milestones. Are there other lists expected to come as well like SETI, Rosetta, and so on? I do think it would be kind of cool to show off the milestones for all of our teams in one place.

Ours go in the Rosetta Milestone thread, but I will be giving lists to Shellnut to co-ordinate with any other team that will be submitting them on a regular basis for display on the front page.

bump - I need my crayons and paper! :D

Let's Get a Little May Mojo Moving -- For the Race!
[/color]

We have:

1) Hysterically Funny, with FUN

2) Rhythmic Pilots

and

3) Saved Western Civilization

In that order!

This will be the warmest team folding race we've had, so please
clean out your folding rigs, and prepare them for hot weather running.

We'll have very little chance of recovering from any lost work units,
in a 10 day race. Let's not lose them! :D

More info and tips to follow in the days ahead.

Get ready to RACE T32monkeys!

What:
The Great Chimp Challenge Team Folding Race - a race for Folding@Home.

When:
May 15th, Noon through May 25th, Noon. All dates and times are Pacific Daylight Savings Time (gmt - 7 hours)

Purpose:
Fun, and an increased exposure for Folding@Home. If you have a friend (or ten!), with a strong computer, (or ten!), ask them to join us!

 You're Invited!

If You Want to Race, It's Easy:

Download the new V7 folding client: (for OSX it's V6)
http://folding.stanford.edu/English/HomePage

Click on the "Windows" button. Save the installer, and run it. It's too easy! (at last!) If you need more detailed help, post up. Happy to help. This installer is similar to most other Windows installers.

Post up your name, in a reply to this thread, and I'll have a passkey for the race, PM'd to you. If you don't get THIS passkey, you WILL be missing out on a lot of points. (Yes, we're keeping it "hidden", for the time being. Please don't post the passkey in the open.

Our team number is 32.

The racing website address will be posted when it's finished. It's under construction, atm.

Keep an eye on your temps. A clean and cool folding rig, is a happy folding rig. :D

Please come join us in the folding forum. This is THE big event of the folding year, and everyone is :welcome:

I suspect suspicious things are happening here.

Sorta susceptible to suspicious superficiality?

I use this thread as a "scratch pad" to work up multi-colored posts that I want to have a specific format.

The info in this thread is not up to date - it's for color and format reference only. I can't see what a post will look like, without a forum space.

So yeah, it's necessarily nefarious! :p

░░░░░ *Last call for any new purchases from the internet.

░░░░░ *For New folders, I recommend the V7 client. Generally a quick and easy set up and operation.

░░░░░ *Other folders, you know how to max your points out -- use Linux (natively or in a VM like Virtual
░░░░░░ Box or VMPlayer 3.0). More points - but usually more work to set up .

░░░░░ *Starting our race on the 14th, means we'll have work units ready to turn in, on the 15th.

░░░░░ *New rig or OS? Be sure to shut off the power saving features, during the race! That includes
░░░░░░░sleeping and hibernation, as well as automatic shut off of the monitor (which stops many gpu's
░░░░░░░from working any further until restarted). Shut off the monitor by hand, during the race.

░░░░░ *Disable automatic tasks you won't need for these 10 days - like the weekly HD defrag that
░░░░░░░Windows 7 wants to do. Screensavers fall into this group, as well -- big time! Also
░░c1░░░"visualizing" the protein in the F@Home client viewer. REALLY slows down the folding!

░░░░░ *Let the rig fold! If it's feasible, 24 hours a day! Save on your power bill, every OTHER week,
░░░░░░░please. Go to the park, walk the dog, play with the cat, or call your friends. Let the rig fold, as
░░░░░░░undisturbed as you can, but check the race updates.

░░░░░ *Have fun, and tell your friends about the race, and about Folding@Home. Forget world peace,
░░░░░░ and visualize a friend with a supercomputer that needs stress testing!

* Race Info *

What: The Great Chimp Challenge of 2012, a Team folding race to benefit Folding @ Home

When: May 15th** through May 25th. (officially) Pacific Daylight Savings Time

Purpose: Officially: Fun, and more exposure for Folding@Home.
21111 Unofficially: Melt the servers, of course!

Who: Racing teams will be :
EVGA, OCN, TSC! OCAU, Tech Power Up!, Hardware Canucks/NCIX, and Custom PC & Bit Tech, and us.

Our racing handle is: T32monkeys
Our team number is: 32
Our public passkey is: 3311d92fd7ee331bd66dfe6eea01708b

Truth is, we're one of the smaller teams in the race, so we need to recruit in this last week before the race. AND, this is great for F@Home's exposure to new folders. Know a friend or two with a computer? Invite them to race with us! :D

We're a small team, but we're definitely NOT a weak team!

The folding program is available free from Stanford University, where Folding@Home is directed by Professor Vijay Pande. Our work units come from Professor Pande, and his associate researchers, at Universities all over the world.

Get the folding program here: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/HomePage

Folding@Home is the largest distributed computer project in the world, with thousands of teams and hundreds of thousands of computers. All running these simulations to help us understand how our critical proteins prepare themselves to work, and how it can go wrong. Diseases studied range from Cancer, to Influenza, Alzheimer's to Huntingtons and Mad Cow/CJ disease.

Results are freely available to medical researchers worldwide, and have already been used to increase the effectiveness of a breast cancer drug, while decreasing the toxicity of that drug.

We're having fun, but it's fun with a definite purpose - to help discover cures and better treatments.

The army of folders against disease and ignorance of our own proteins, is forming -- new hardware is coming on-line, old hardware is being re-commissioned for this task. Operating systems are being changed, VM's set into place. Recruiting is proceeding at an unparalleled pace.

Team 32 is on the move!
There is a rumor that we're trying to turn in so many work units, that F@Home's servers will overheat.

That is a lie.

We're going to turn in so many work units that those servers will melt into a little puddle of bubbling goo! :p

We have one week left - recruit your friends and associates, and get ready to race!

**Start racing on the 14th so you have work units ready to turn in, on the 15th.

Slowly our hero-to-be leaned forward a bit in his Lay-Z-Boy recliner for his sip of coke - or was it beer? "Where was the remote at?" He'd long since forgotten. His fat fingers slowly engulfed the glass, and moved it in to his turgid lips. How long had it been since he'd actually got up and did something, he wondered? He chuckled at the thought that he was a human potted plant, just lacking chlorophyll.

"What's this post about?"

"A post about a race?"

"Wait... a race for medical research, a charity?"

"A chance to *do* something good? Hmmm... "

The post read:

Where: Your computer runs the program, from your home or business (he liked this!) The setup on the new V7 client is far easier than ever before. (he liked this, too!)

He knew he wouldn't get a better offer than this. Finding his mouse, he made the clicks needed, entered the name, team number, and passkey, and now he was saving the world!

And his glass was empty -- "time for another" he thought, with a satisfied smile.

It's the Great Chimp Challenge team folding race for Folding@Home, May 15th - May 25th! Be there, or look up "turgid". You don't want to be that guy -- come race with us, instead!

We are having an upcoming race, against the biggest teams in the Folding@Home project. When you race against teams like EVGA and OCN, you know you need your friends to rally around with you.

It's the annual Great Chimp Challenge race, to raise awareness for the Folding@Home project.

The good news is the race this year is handicapped, so small teams like ours, can still be competitive -- if they recruit of course. :D So I'm recruiting, and hoping you'll join us - it might seem tame, but it gets exciting with the frequent updates, and blog-like threads, in the folding forum.

The new V7 folding client is the easiest program we've ever had, by far - automatically setting up your PC to the right settings 95% of the time. You download and run the installer and enter a few lines of info as shown in red, below - and that's it!

There never was an easier 10 day race! After the race, the program uninstalls like any other Windows program.

For Linux users, there are versions for Red Hat, Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, CentOS, Arch, and other distro's.

It's the Great Chimp Challenge team folding race for Folding@Home, May 15th - May 25th! Be there, or be square!

You can jump straight into it, by going here:

and running the Windows set up program. Enter the info in red, above.
(It is case sensitive!)

I hope to see you on the "starting line", on the 14th. We start a day early so we have a work unit to send in, on the first day of the race.

Thanks.

<< gamer's version>>

Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted the shadow of the assassin slowly sweeping into my kill zone, along the cold grey stone wall. It was just a matter of time before the assassin would expose himself to the head shot he had coming to him.

But right now, it was time to see how my team was faring in The Great Chimp Challenge Race, over in the folding forum.

It had been all too easy to join - I clicked here:
http://folding.stanford.edu/English/HomePage

and ran the install program, entering the information in red:
7777777]Our team race name is: T32monkeys

Sure, it's the annual Great Chimp Challenge race, to raise awareness for the Folding@Home project, but what I want to do is knock down a few of the competing teams - 7 to choose from.

Handicapped races are fun -- if you recruit of course. :D

Why not join and recruit some friends? It gets exciting with the frequent updates, and blog-like threads, in the folding forum. Unexpectedly so!

After the race, the program uninstalls like any other Windows program. Whenever I want.

But right now, I've got a an assassin to take care of! :snipe:
