Hello all video experts out there.

Just jumped on the High def bandwagon and purchased a Canon HG20 high def. video recorder.
The files are saved in MTS format. When I play them back using VLC media player, (Version 9.4) the playback it quite choppy.

The playback is smooth only when I overclock my Phenom 2 Tri core to over 3.2ghz. This leads me to believe that my CPU is doing all the work rather than the "Unified Video decoder" that my ATI 4870 has onboard.

ATI Avivo™ HD Video and Display Platform6

* Unified Video Decoder 2 (UVD 2) for H.264/AVC, VC-1, and MPEG-2 video formats
o High definition (HD) playback of Blu-ray and HD DVD video
o Dual stream (HD+SD) playback support
o DirectX Video Acceleration 1.0 & 2.0 support
o Support for BD-Live certified applications
* Hardware DivX and MPEG-1 video decode acceleration
* Accelerated video transcoding & encoding for H.264 and MPEG-2 formats

Is this self explanatory? MTS format NOT supported for the UVD2?

If so, can anyone recommend a good conversion program from MTS to one of these other formats?

Thanks
