I'm about to pick up a EVGA E760 Classified, some G.Skill Trident 2000MHz 9-9-9 (F3-16000CL9T-6GBTD), and four 640GB WD Caviar Black.

All I need to do is decide where to get the 920 from . . . I figure I have the following choices.

1. Order one from NewEgg and hope for the best.

2. Order one from Tank Guys and get a guaranteed DO stepping. However, it’s $300 and there’s no mention of the batch number. I emailed them yesterday asking if they could specify that.

3. Hunt around ebay for a good batch number. So far I see 3903A466, 3849A860, and 3910A307. (I haven’t bothered to e-mail more sellers and ask them.) There are other DO steppings but no mention of batch number. All of these are in the $270 range (shipped).

From the batch numbers mentioned above, I think I’m leaning toward 3849A860. I see good comments at these threads . . .

For the 3910A307, I have also read good things here . . .

Anyone have any suggestions?

Microcenter always lets me pick my own CPU, and Fry's does it most of the time. It's a little harder at Fry's since they have the guy in the cage getting them.

To be honest I would like some clarification on the batch # stuff, when I plan on buying my i7 920 I was told only to look for SLBEJ and I would be good.

I am looking at this one as for now
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Intel-Boxed...CPUs?hash=item3ca3a3ceee&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Model #: BX80601920
S-Spec: SLBEJ - D0 Stepping
FPO/Batch#: 3903A466 / 3849A860

Some clarification please, I wanna make sure I buy the best 920 possible for oc'ing

I bought one just a week ago at microcenter. 920 D0 (guy actually knew what d0 meant!)

So far without any effort I've gotten 4.2ghz on nearly all stock voltage.

My batch is 3912B353

Newer batch. Theory says it will not clock as well being a late built chip as in it wasnt picked to be a faster chip, but you never know. B batch clocked better than A batch for the most part. Maybe C batch will be even better? You never know....

Yea, I was afraid of that... guess that's why B is the "golden" batch.

Never know, the C batches could clock better. I dont see how they could as I believe i7 is about tapped out, but it definitely isnt a sign that it will clock worse.

Heh, I spent the past few days wondering what stepping and batch I'd get... didn't even know there was a C batch. Guess I'll see how it performs soon enough.
