Recently I got a great deal from Fry's combo i5-750 with P55-UD3R.
I'm getting ready for it...while still waitting for a few more items to complete.
I probably need helps along the way to overclock this since this is a newer platform to me...so is ddr3. So please join in and help out. :santa:

For now it is set up on a piece of plexiglass....rams arrived today.

1 - FULL BACK
2 - Added new cut out to accommodate 1156 back hole
3 - Edge
4 - Nut
5 - Rams Rip Jaws PC15000 999-24 @ 1.65v STOCK

........to be continued

I got to tell ya, this is the fastest computer that I ever own. Everything seems like a breeze. From installations of softwares or running them......just amazing. The best part of all.....at a very affordable price. Highly recommended.
CPU & MOBO combo $189 (Fry's)
4GB ram G.Skill Rip Jaws PC15000 $95 (Newegg)
CM V8 $29 (Fry')
1TB Hitachi 7200rpm 32MB cache $60 (Fry's)
LG DVD writer $30 (Fry's)
GT9500 Passive $44 (Newegg....I don't game) :)
500W Antec Neo HE $70 (Fry's)
...I will probably install all of these into my old Antec TX1050B server case

What did you use for those spacers between board and Plexiglas?
Just a visit to lowes or Home depot?

Yeah man I've got a similar set up and things couldn't be better. The price, the speed, the quality - the components sure have come a long way - even just from a few years ago!

Those actually are NYLON LOCK NUTs size 10-32 (Fry's item# 3580434 a pack of 25pcs for $2.49) The nuts have good size, height and stiffness for use as spacers. I used with machine screws size # 6-32 x 1"....... screw slots through the nut easily.

Hi guys, I have questions for you to help me with better understanding.
I've just enabled EIST and I know idle temp meant nothing...my idle temp is very low...and so is the fan on CM V8 at around 800rpm. I can see multipliers have drop down to 9x but not the voltage in the CPU-Z panel. Is this normal? Or something else in the bios needed to adjust as well? When multipliers drop down to 9x does it saves energy eventhough voltage not changed as indicated in CPU-Z?
Thanks

I have noticed that if you set the voltage manually the voltage won't lower for me when using EIST. If you have it on auto it will.

That's because you are telling the motherboard to ALWAYS use that voltage. You have to set the voltage to Normal and use the Variable vCore setting to tell the mobo what the maximum + it can apply to the core is.

Right now everything residing inside my case. I was affraid temps would be much higher...but stayed the same.

I found this setting is the best for me. Raised higher speed for ram @ 1.6v
Vcore: 1.38750

CPU-Z idle: 1.360v ----- LOAD: 1.392v

TURBO BOOST

To answer my own question on post #8 above and also learn more about its TURBO BOOST feature, I've started quick tests from 165 bclk to 180 bclk.
I believe that it shows lower temp, lower voltage and it seems to be faster speed while I was doing some encoding.

Here are my settings:

Final words, I'd probably use the TURBO BOOST feature from now on with 180 bclk.
It runs cooler with boosted speed up to 4.32GHz as required.

I too was bit by the bug, I bought Golmer's i5 750 and the P55M-UD4 board for $250.00. Then I ordered 8GB Gskill Ripjaw 1600 from newegg for $88.00 for one set and $93.00 for the other set and a 1156 bracket for my Xigmatek. Just waiting on the board/proc. to arrive, I am stoked. I hear that it won't be "that" much of a step up from my current set-up, but even 20% would be nice and to not be on a dated system, I can later get a i7 when they get cheaper.

I am planning to sell my Q6600/Mobo/Ram so if I get lucky and get say $250 for the lot, then it will have only cost me a normal CPU upgrade to change platforms.

I am only hoping to be able to hit 4.2 GHz. *crosses fingers* :comp:

I'm sure you could easily reach 4.2GHz without problem.
I think i5-750 is major step up from my Q66 & Q82 or any Exxxx series.
Do notice the temperatures above from 165~180bclk....it is like running on water range....even burning with IBT.
My case has only 3 fans beside the V8.
Exhaust fan 120mm spins at 1000rpm
Attached fan 120mm blows on the graphic card at 900rpm
and a front 92mm intake fan @ 1100~1300rpm blows through the hard drive.

The V8 only spins 1900rpm when it runs Prime or IBT. Othewise, it is happily at 900rpm or 1300rpm most of the time.

Overall, the whole system is very quiet for its power and speed.

Thats what I wanted to hear. My case has like 7 Fans in it and is used as my HTPC sitting in the Living room. Its not horribly loud for normal watching, but while watching quiet/scary movies it can seem loud. Also I heard they are more power efficient and cooler running.

So if I can get another increase of 500-700mhz and run cooler and a small increase in performace AND later on move on to an i7 IF NECCESSARY. I will be happy. I am also looking to get a Manual Fan Controller to maybe help with the noise.

I have thought about WC, but it just seem so messy. And it seems like such a high cost for a small return.

I thought I would stop at 180 bclk but the itch was just too great.
So, here it is at 185 bclk .....on the brink of my rams limit.

He has speedstep turned on. If he also has turbo turned on then he should be hitting 3885 MHz. Still at that speed he has a good Super Pi Run. I must be doing something wrong, because I have to be running at 4.2 to hit that good on super Pi.

Ahh ok I see he has RipJaw 15000, I only have 12800s, That and I am running 8 gigs.

How are you getting 9.454 superpi with a 1665Mhz clock speed?

If he has CState enabled then when he runs Super Pi 1M the cpu will bounce between the x24 multi for up to two threads. 180x24... ~4.4GHz

If he ran SuperPi 32M the multi would drop down to x21 for 4 threads
