Fin Count Update

To match figures for fin count Swiftech and Thermochill`s counts have been doubled as apparent differences have been brought to my attention within the spreadsheet by our trusted water guru Spawn-Inc.

most third party "fin counters" and companies interpret the fins to be counted as shown in the diagram. b1 & b2 equals 2 fins count.

im not gonna hold my breath for an end to world poverty & conflict... but at least now were all clear on how to count fins?

Nice idea; this would definitely be good to have in chart/spreadsheet form. It would also be good for a front page piece; may as well get the info out there as well! Let me know if that interests you when you're done.

Anyway, if you feel ambitious, I know some manufacturers post charts. Here is the one for the MCR-320. You could link to them after their listings so people get a visual of the proportions to go with the dimension measurements.

I will try to get as much compiled as we can find usefull to stick in there but sometime down the line my own focus may be forced to move away to other things.

But for now were good to go :burn:

yep theres two versions still available here in the uk but only one listed as current at there site so I will update to the modern dimensions and spacing.

cheers xrodney

Edit: updated

I just link folks to Skinnes web page. Besides size etc, the thermal testing info gets people to open thier eyes to the inner workings of watercooling.

Thanks tho Bobby, putting this in a table format would be much easier to compare, especially for sizes. Once it's all done hopefully this can be put in the WC FAQ/stickies.

carnt deny ive been to skinnies on my travels today  all respect to the guy :salute:

A one stop spreadsheet source to all rads is another vision ;)

once top side of it. updates should be steady work.

so anyone out there with the ability to drop a ruler on a rad we dont know the FPI and fan spacing for will help the cause :)

To make this easy and less confusing, we should stick to the major players out there, and only the newer models. For example, the XSPC RS rads are easily outperformed by the RX series. So why mention the older rad which can cause confusion. Like the black ice stealth series and others.

well I remain fluid with the idea.

next batch we will confirm which models then source the info.

rough XLS template linked at the top... only one entry, im hungry :p

Because they are still used? The whole idea of a database is to include most available information.

Radiator performance, relative to density, varies by such a marginal amount.

Edit: I believe they may also support a nitch market where thin is needed for mounting issues.

more I got to thinking in the background the more I have to agree there schmide

here in the uk older models are still available hence my confusion... sure other poor uk folk also have fun figuring out what the lead market has left behind.

anyhow the spreadsheet of first draft variety has been completed (as far as current info goes) and linked at the top of the thread.

nicely done. should be plenty helpful even as it is right now.

for the quad rads the black ice 560 uses 140mm fans, not 120mm as listed.

Super cool. Adding a cooling area column then sorting by it provides their relative cooling ability. Maybe put in a fan count so that can be taken into consideration. (i.e. a thin 120.3 may outperform a thick 120.2)

Edit: or one could just weight the width and height higher than the depth. (some fudge factor) Never mind.

Of course density is the wrong word. Cooling area is the right term. Doh.

@Spawn - noted will change the 560 :)

@conum - yep fitting and offset was my original need ;)

@Schmid - top suggestion for some kind of ability ordering we should do that :D

any usefull info that can be sourced about these rads can be added obviously.
anyhow its starting to build up quite nice.

(best sort that 560 out then and maybe carry on sorting the order of the listing out)

Some rads have a bit of a plenum area on one side for less dead spots. Like the new EK rad. Makes a diff when mounting fans in push or pull etc. But not a huge deal at all.

Maybe a colume for what basic fan speeds work best. That would help the noobs a lot.
