Building a new rig soon and need some opinions on a board.

So far the rig will have:
i7 920
6gb mem
Will be OC'ing to ~4.0ghz and have a max of 2 GPU's.

Just need to decide on a board.
Ive narrowed it down to these:

1. EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188049

2. GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128423&cm_re=ga_x58a-_-13-128-423-_-Product

3. ASUS P6T
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131359&cm_re=p6t-_-13-131-359-_-Product

Also on the Gigabyte board is there a big difference between the X58 and X58A?

Thanks,
Ken

Out of those 3 boards I would definitely go towards either the P6T or the UD3R.. I have the P6T and I have to say I am very happy with it, but I've heard very good things about the gigabyte board as well.. If you're looking for just about 4GHz overclock, then I would say the choice is yours go for either board, but if you're looking for higher overclocks than that then I would go with the Gigabyte for sure, the P6T just doesn't have what it takes to push higher OCs..

take a look at this board its what i own http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131614 it has everything the P6T has plus some extras like usb 3.0 and sata3 6Gb.also has on board power, reset, and memok buttons for when you have bad OC's and it also runs the turbo O.C app and its only a few bucks more than the P6T.
lol someone posted the same board above me at the same time i was posting:)

intel 920 [email protected]
6 gigs corsair dominator ddr3 1600
ASUS P6X58D Premium w/ sata3 and usb 3.0
OCZ vertex turbo 60gig SSD
corsair tx750 psu
nvidia 9800+ x3 sli
windows 7 x64

Yes I have that board as well. In sig. Just trying to make this build a little more low budget lol.

Oops didn't see that in your sig. But since it's on my list of boards for the next build, mind telling us how you like it.

i have that board as well and i love it,haven't had a single problem with it yeat, the only thing i had to do was load the usb hub driver from asus cuz windows 7 didn't have a proper driver for it,not the board fault tho lol.

Of course the $310 board will be a good choice over the boards he listed. None of the ones he listed cost more than $240.

I don't think it is at all obvious that the more expensive board would be a better choice. Case in point, the Gigabyte GA-P45-UD3P 775 board. Overclocks 775 quads as good as just about anything out there for $135.00. Maybe not if you're going for WR's but just the same...

"Generally has more features" Better? Either way, I was getting that you posted a board $70 more than the ones he posted. It is probably safe to say that if the poster was really willing to spend that kind of money, they would have listed boards in that price range.

Money is not a problem. Just dont need the extras the more expensive boards come with. This rig will be used for folding, some internet and a few older games. Im buying everything from Microcenter this saturday. Still any reason the EVGA board would not be a good choice? Thanks.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that there was anything wrong with the EVGA board, it's simply that I haven't really heard all that much about it in comparison to the P6T and the UD3P.. I have confidence in EVGA's products, so I have no doubt that it would be a quality motherboard, it's just that I can't say anything about it because I've had no experience with it.

I have had all 3 of those boards and would take the giga first them the evga then the asus. the asus is prolly more everyday friendly than the rest but the evga was just super to oc, but the giga just blows them away for all out clocks and also offers more features and is basically the same price. not even a choice in my book, go with the giga if it was my money

Thanks guys.

I have had good luck with Asus boards and the AM3 Giga board I have is nice as well.

I havent had any experience with EVGA other than the Classified GPU and 8800 Ultra I have.

Going to Microcenter Saturday so who knows what Ill come home with. Still torn between the Giga and EVGA boards.
