Unfortanetly this is the best you're getting: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e=&srchInDesc= they don't get any smaller. The i7s are too power hungry for the voltage regulation in smaller boards to take.

Nah they get samller than that, it is a 1156 motherboard, but you can get a socket 1156 i7 CPU, and this board comes with everything on-board, even thought of grabbing one myself for my son, and would fit inside that case you were looking at perfectly: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=5&subcat=1436

That one looks pretty dang small though... and to think that ATx was almost too small for these chips at launch :O

the shuttle case you linked to comes with a mobo
since shuttle is not releasing info of the form factor, i'd assume it's propitiatory
i would not expect any of the motherboards you'll find to be a good fit

    what about something like this

I agree with Seanie....I've got two of the Zotac H55M-itx boards, one for my HTPC with an i3-540 with the iGPU active.
And one with an i5-670 @ 4GHz + an HD 5850 for my portable gaming rig (using this VERY SMALL case).....I love these things

the motherboard FF has nothing to do with the voltage regulation. they could fit more on but then they have to either remove something else. either that or they wind up just doing like the rest. using the min amount of regulation on the board for the cpu to operated at stock speed/voltages, ie no ocing.

more then likely the board is a mDTX, only FF i know of with only two slots like that. there are tons of mITX cases you just have to look in different places.

sounds like a mean little box for sure... would be nice to see some atoms/ions in smaller configurations lie VIA mobile FF. now that is really small FF for sure.
