CD/DVD/blue ray drive raid?

Why isn't there? I can't think of any better way to encrypt something or speed up a read/write to discs.

This would require that you have the same number of optical drives on the writing PC and the reading PC, and that all those drives are also capable of the similar tasks. It is unusual for the average PC owner to have more than 1 optical drive and if they do they are generally different types (1 DVD-ROM and 1 CD-Burner).

The hardware requirements to make this work are just not practical.

im not gonna argue with that, though it still seems like a good idea for backups, if it were possible i'd buy two identical drives.
