Long story short, my next paycheck has holiday pay and a huge bonus on it. I have a lot of extra cash. Unfortunately most of that is going to the "wedding savings fund" So, say I wanted to burn 200 bucks on storage, i need another TB which is going for a Hitachi 1tb for 60 bucks, newegg has a OCZ vertex 60 GB for 129.99.

Question is, would I notice a good difference from going up from my current raid setup in sig to having my OS and Few main daily use apps on the 60 gig vertex?

If anyone has any literature or anything comparing these two fill me in i couldn't find jack.

Whadaya think?!

Agreed, it's hard to find comparisons between SSD, those of us who are looking for a SSD but are unsure how much better it will be than RAID 0 or just a 7200 RPM drive , especially with these new hybrid drives, black editions, blue editions.. I considered doing a 3 drive raid with 10k raptors but the more I read the more SSD seems to be the new fangled thing.

A comparison of RAID 0 hard drives and a SSD would look something like this:
SSDvsRAID0.png
This is not a real benchmark but an idealized comparison based on Anandtech Storage Bench and some RAID 0 benchmarks in different forum threads. The performance advantage of the SSD is so big that it stretches the dynamic range of the chart to such a degree that the difference between different hard drive configurations almost disappear.

Okay here is my line up, i am gonna use the SSD for windows and maybe office and another app or two, probably not any games. So i cant decide what would be better, this 40 gig intel:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167025

which i have heard excellent things about and has great reviews, but has a way slower write speed than :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227542
and
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...0227394&cm_re=vertex_2-_-20-227-394-_-Product

Which would be best if im just gonna have my OS and maybe a few apps on (everything else on WD black 500 as sig shows)

I would rank them thus:
  1. Agility 2
  2. X25-V
  3. Vertex
Although it is true as you say that in writing situations the X25-V is hampered by its write speed. But its random read speed is quite a bit better than the Vertext drive, which will pay of every time you boot.

For more discussions you can look at Choosing a Solid State Drive.

Just purchased the Agility 2 60 GIG, gonna be used for OS and core apps only and maybe 1 mmo :p. I had to butter up my fiance to buy it for me, it was a fair trade, i put new tires on her car and i get a over priced expensive , but well worth it SSD.

but i'll report back.
