Does anyone know of any interesting drive bay accessories (basically anything that isn't a disk drive)? I don't plan on filling all my bays with CD drives, so what else can I put there? According to Wikipedia, system monitors are popular for drive bays, but I've never seen one for sale. I've also seen drive bay fans and extra ports, but I don't really need any of those. What else is out there?

something i always thought was entertaining is ThermalTakes BigWater Water Cooler System

it takes up like 2 5.25' hard drive bays and cools pretty much just the CPU, i wouldnt be the one to stress such a small internal system

but it is a cool idea and does take space

and heres a few other intersting items for HDD bays.
ive got the cigarette lighter attachement and its awesome so much enteratinment value

The bigwater is interesting, it is a piece of grabage that will more then likely spray water all over your system or just fail outright. I guess coming home/powering on/waking up to find your rig is junked would be uhh interesting...

What are you looking for on the "interesting" side djh? Lights, pretty moving pictures, etc?

I would like a system monitor- I have found one, but it's not actually entirely in the drive bay, it has a monitor that plugs into the part that comes out of the drive bay and sits on top of the computer or your desk or something. Other than that, I'm really just curious about all the things you can stick into a drive bay (reminds me of the Simpsons when Homer went to buy a hands free headset and learned about everything that can be plugged into a cigarette lighter.

You could... Put the covers in them. I don't know why you would want to spend money on a whim for something you don't need. If you found something cool while looking around and were like, "Hey! That's awesome and I want to buy it," then I would be like, more power to you. But asking us, what would be good for you to buy is kind of pointless. Personally, I have my Dvd-Rw and a fan controller. I need/use both of those daily. Would I ever buy something just to fill the empty spaces? Of course not.

Antec Veris Mutimedia drive bay

They also make a single 5.25bay version as well. The one in the video is two bays.

Heres more stuff for the more functional folks out there:

Kama-panel 2 multi-function

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/news/3097

This is THE swiss army knife of multifunction panels, it has usb ports fan controllers, audio out, sd and compact flash readers, and more. I actually own this in black and think its one of the coolest devices to get simply cause the bottom four fan controllers come out and can be replaced with a slimline (notebook) optical drive. My slimline is broken though, otherwise it be in use. Plasticy though and wires can be messy. I ordered this from Japan as I couldn't find it anywhere in US online shops. I want to use a slot loading drive. This would also be great for small form factor cases with few 5.25 bays. A huge plus for me is an external SATA plugin for hdds and not eSATA.

How about two slimline drives in the place of one desktop optical drives? Dual slimline slot-loading in one 5.25 bay would be cool.

Or how bout mounting a 120mm intake fan in 3 of your 5.25 bays? I did it. Makes like a wind tunnel in my computer all the way to the exhaust.

How about converting a 5.25 bay into a drawer?

5.25 bay audio amp

Of course there's always a good fan controller....with leds lights knobs and touchscreens, those are easy to find. A couple of my favs:

I listed those above cause u said a system monitor bay would be cool. This is my personal 3.5 bay, feels sturdy and not cheap, its a very well built yet simple piece of hardware....

Well atleast my wasted nights of no sleep when I was researching building my first computer assisted somebody other than myself in wasting money.

I think my list is a pretty good list of the most oddball computer bay devices.

EDIT I just realized I linked to a page of it for 5 bucks! That was unintentional. Though cool.
