If only part of a file is readable on a disc, can you copy just that part?

looks like you need to install libdvdcss, then view the contents of the dvd with lsdvd and pipe the output thru ddrescue to help fix the bits

although you got the file copied already, can you try unstoppable copier, it's for Windows and Linux.
