Trifire dual 6870 + Matrix?

I'm considering picking up two 6870's. Can I trifire these with my current Matrix 5870?

Any specific reason as to why not? I know that cross generation Xfire is possible. I just have never used a trifire setup before.

You've been misinformed.

You can Crossfire something like a 5850 with a 5870, or a 5970 with a 5870 (for 3-way crossfire), but neither of those represent different generations of cards.

You can't crossfire a 6870 with a 5870. The only "exception" would be if you had a motherboard with a Lucid Hydra chip, which is designed to more or less allow any two cards to work together but the technology is a bit hit-or-miss.

Edit...no go, does not work

6870s only have 1 CF connector.. not 2. So at most, you can only have 2 running in a system at once. There's no way to bridge them all together.
