My younger brother would be incredibly interested in this as well. He bought one that simply uses component cables and has been very disappointed in his purchase.

I'm looking for a PVR that will allow me to ... record in 1080p.

From what? HDTV is mainly 720p or 1080i.

Avermedia has a bunch of different HD-PVR models that have HDMI inputs but they still only capture 720p/1080i. Even tho they have HDMI ythey still won't deal with something (like a STB pr a BR player) which requires HDCP.

Let me rephrase slightly. I'mm looking for a pvr that allows me to record from the xbox (whatever it's highest quality is) with input being component or hdmi and output for sure being hdmi (my monitor doesn't support composite) or 3rd option being a good composite to hdmi converter.

Edit: I found one that looks promising: http://www.google.com/products/cata...og_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CC4Q8wIwAg#

I'm picking one of these: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Hauppau...84034619&skuId=9317768&st=Hauppauge&cp=1&lp=2

up after work and I will report back with some results.

A device that would record 1080p over HDMI would be able to make 1:1 digital copies of practically anything. The Hauppage uses component inputs to capture 720p or 1080i via an analog connection. That means the output goes through an A/D conversion. It's not the same as the source but that's what you have to use because of the copy protection demands.
