Will probably be moving my MSI K9A2 Platinum to server duties (media, router, firewall, and file storage).

I know the newegg link here lists 8gb max:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130136
as well as MSI's site here:
http://us.msi.com/index.php?func=prodmbspec&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1332#menu

Would it not run a set of these? :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231182

Possibly two sets at a later date?

Will be using a 1055T or 925 Phenom II., or even my Athlon 620...if it can handle the work load.

Thanks...

pg. 2-7 of the manual:
Due to the chipset resource deployment, the system density will only be detected up to 7+GB (not full 8GB) when each DIMM is installed with a 2GB memory module.
If I'm reading that right even if it would recognize the 4Gb modules it couldn't read more than two of them. But I could be interpreting it wrong ...

Ah....so that's why most 8xx series amd boards say 16gb.....

And yeah, that sounds about right.
Thanks QuietIce. Ill be gift wrapping this board for a friend.
Might have found a giga board that would suit my needs better as well.

The later 7xx chipsets also support 16 Gb, at least some of them do. My M3A32 (790FX/SB600 like your board) says it doesn't support RAM using 128 Mb chips (anything more than 2 Gb sticks) but the M3A79-T (790FX/SB750) DOES support 16 Gb so it's not just a chipset thing. It must have something to do with the RAM circuitry on the motherboard ...

Makes sense, Ill be jumping to ddr3..........its faster and cheaper in the long run. AM3 should be cheaper as well when am3+ comes out which should be about the time Ill be putting this server together.

Again, thanks for the info man.
