I'm doing a new build for a friend. What new GeForce video card with at least 1 GB if on board memory for about $100 or less does anyone suggest for video editing?

The rest of the system is likely to be Windows 7, a big enough PSU to handle the video card, at least 6 gigs of system memory, and a quad core processor.

Thanks for helping.

you could grab a gtx 260 from the classifieds, or a gts 250 which is pretty much a 9800gtx+. pretty sure either of those would help video editing in premier but i'd double check.

GTX 450 if you can find one around there. 100-120.

Rest of system IMO

Gigabyte UD3
Core i5 2500K
CM hyper 212 heatsink
4GB (insert brand) DDR3 2000 Cas 7 or cas 8

Don't know if you really need 8GB for your purposes. If you do, get 2x4GB instead of 4x2GB. Easier on the wallet and memory controller.

Thanks, either way looks good - a new GTS 250 for just over $100 shipped or a used GTX 260.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of researching these parts. And of course your advice on memory makes sense. I will check out the GTX 450 as well and determine a capable PSU.

Since you wont need dx11 capabilities, I would go for a GTX280 or 285 over a gts250. Should be significantly faster for cuda based apps. Can pick up a used one for around 100 bucks if you look out for deals in the classies or on ebay.
