Chad: you were a forums member back in the days that posting was done by sending a letter to Skip.

Do you remember when it started? I believe I became a SENIOR in 1997 or 1998

Not sure when it started....
Best idea i can give you about when i joined is this.

I had a LX board and a P2 333 from HP
With the help of you guys I got this amassing new chipset called an i440BX
and had a nice 420Mhz (105x4).
Was lucky as i had an downwards unlocked CPU.

Now if memory servers correct Intel fully locked them in Aug of 98....

So i am guessing I showed up in the Spring of 98 as the BX was just about to come out.
And did i ever love the BX boards.

My Abit BF6 took me from 333MHz all the way to 1485Mhz (135x11)

I've really been trying to find my old SlotA "goldfingered" Thunderbird. That is sexay!!

I do not have the old Slocket adapter. I passed on that. I might still have an old PIII Celery 466 someplace though.

Thunderbirds were Socket A. Slot A were Argon, Orion or Pluto (according to Wikipedia)
[/nitpick]

There was the Slot A (Cart) Thunderbird Athlon, that was typical 700 or 750Mhz. I have the 900Mhz variant. (I also had the 750 Duron cart CPU.)

They moved over to Socket A right before the 1Ghz chip came out. Which was kind of hard to find at the time. After that, they moved on to other things on the 462 (Socket A).

I had huge issues with the nVidia running at 1x on the AGP. Due to the stupid Irongate / Viper chipset.

:D I might be off, but I think my memory is correct here.

You are correct Wolf, there where a few Slot Thunderbirds :)

I joined OCF back in my PII 266Mhz days, before the multipliers got locked. I became a Senior after the multipliers was locked and we all was drawing small lines on your CPU's with the "Pencil trick"... :p Cant remember any of the years of when this happened, but I wasnt very old. In a while i think I was the youngest Senior member, untill OpfenFriday was appointed Senior.
My nick was "Walter:)" back then :D

That was the Thunderbird, Thorton and Thoroughbred days. Week 39 of 03 I think or was it week 41 of 04? Then we got the very lovely Barton core. With that killer BH5 action.

Oh, your talking of Intel not AMD. I used conductive pens. Much cleaner to do the mod on the chip.
I miss the hard mods for overclocking.
It was August of 1998 that Intel locked the Multis. Why I moved off Intel and on to AMD.

Couple of the items I dug out so far. I was going to include the Turtle Beach (vintage) sound card. :D

One of the XP1700+s I modded to XP2100+ (using a conductive pen) is still going strong in my gf's mother's machine.

I was gutted though: 1.46 GHz stock and I screwed up, was going for 2.0 GHz and got 1.73 GHz instead. Wrong bridges....

I still have a P3 700? that ran the server that powered the forums for a few years....I know I still have it somewhere

hardware pron alert for you old timers ;)

Love that K6-2, such a great upgrade for the socket 7.
And if you set the multiplier to 2x you got 6x

I miss the hard mods for overclocking.

I know what you mean, its too simple now.
It was fun to look up data sheets back in the day and get the proper pin out to VID pin your CPU or even change the BUS speed.

Now here is some porn for you all

From spare EEPROMs to a very Famous waterblock from back in the day
But sadly i can seem to find the greatest off all BX Chips, my Tualatins, not sure where they are right now. They beat the pants of the P4 Willys
