Found this online, it it worth taking a look for a few hundered bucks? Would it fold well? I've been trying to find any posts or anthing on something like this but am not comming up with anything. Trying to read up as much as possible on differnt setups and used older equipment so I know what to look out for.

With that, does anyone know of a few server machines or other hardware to keep an eye out for? Certain models of processors or stuff that should spark an intrest?

2 HP Proliant DL380 G3 servers that are in great condition.
The servers have Dual Xenon 3.20ghz processors, 512mb ram, Holds 6 SCSI Drives, dual power supplies, cd drive, floppy drive.
These Servers work great and were pulled from a working rack.
SERVERS DO NOT COME WITH DRIVES OR DRIVE TRAYS These servers were pulled from a working environment.

A quick Google search leads me to believe that these are single core, dual process CPUs. IOW, not worth the money.

2 cores x 2(with hyperthreading) that would be 8 cores. 3.2
Add more ram(it might make bigadv deadline.

Chas?

This is what I found:

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11473_div/11473_div.html#Overview

Which says this is the CPU it uses:

Standard Features
Processor
One of the following depending on Model: Intel Xeon Processor 3.2 GHz/533MHz - 512KB/2MB
Intel Xeon Processor 3.2 GHz/533 MHz - 512KB/1MB
Intel Xeon Processor 3.06 GHz/533 MHz - 512KB/1MB
Intel Xeon Processor 2.8 GHz/533MHz - 512KB/1MB
Intel Xeon Processor 3.06 GHz/533MHz - 512KB
Intel Xeon Processor 2.8 GHz/400MHz - 512KB
Intel Xeon Processor 2.4 GHz/400MHz - 512KB
Cache Memory
One of the following depending on Model:
2-MB Level 3 cache
(NOTE: Included with some 3.2 GHz models.)
1-MB Level 3 cache
(NOTE: Included with some 2.8 GHz, 3.2 GHz or 3.06 GHz models.)
512-KB Level 2 cache
(NOTE: Included with all models.)

Looking at that spec on the HP website I reckon it's 2 single core Xeons, so not really worth the effort in terms of maximizing production.

Something to keep in mind is that it does not come with hard drives-- you're either going to want a Linux livecd or you'll have to buy drives.
Are they straight SCSI or are they SAS? And don't forget you'll need the trays, too.

I wouldn't bother unless you can get a hold of the drives cheaply or you want to run drive-less.

These look like dual 3.2 GHz P4-based single core (or HT at best) Xeons.

A dual 3.2 GHz P4 Xeon/HT box will make SMP deadlines (mine does, at 2.8) but will not do for bigadv.

Minimum to be worth it for bigadv is IIRC: >2 GHz i7-based Xeon cores x 8 or >3.5 GHz i7 w/HT x 4 cores.

Not worth the 'leccy.

Yeah G3 will be single-core CPU w/ HT, not worth the cost of power.

Dual socket single core with HT, as others have determined, capable of about 1000 ppd on SMP WUs. THey appear to be stripped of ram as well. I'd let this "deal" pass.
