Windows 7 differences

Just for interests sake, are the 64 bit Windows 7 DVDs all identical, is it just the key that differentiates if the OS will be Home Premium, Ultimate etc?

Supposedly, yes. All editions are contained within the same .WIM file found on the Windows install DVD. However, I do not have a retail Win7 installation media to check.

I have the retail Home Premium, and it does not ask which version it is when booting from the disk. I don't have another key to test this with, but my guess is that it is the same. It makes packaging a lot easier and options are simply enabled or disabled by the license.

I lost my Windows 7 Pro disc but I still have the genuine key for it so is there any way I can download a free trial version of it and enter my key into it?

Not sure whether Microsoft still allows us to do that... you can get a technet subscription and download it that way.

Nope. However you can still get a replacement disk.
