I've been through 2 GPUs since i built my i7, and i'm about to move to my third. i7 was overkill when i got it, and it's still ahead of the game today. GPUs fall behind much much faster though. I doubt you'll get three years out of any GPU comfortably.

Just my two cents, go with a 460/560/550 not a 465. The 460 overclocks a lot better and runs cooler than a 465. the 460 is built of gf104 vs gf100 for the 465. It's a slightly tweaked fermi. Now a 560 is a little a head the 460. It has more cuda cores/runs cooler. The 550 is slightly behind the 460 but all in all they are all close performance wise. A 560 is the best and a 550 is the worst but none of them will disappoint. You just have to look at your price range.

Definitely try and fill up the fan slots on that case to try and increase airflow. Otherwise, everything looks great!

Welcome to the forum. This post is kinda in the wrong place, but I will give you an answer anyways.

You forgot a power supply in your proposal.

My advised setup

memory $45

Power Supply $40 after rebate

CPU cooler $30

video card $109.99
EVGA GeForce GTX 460 1024MB FPB Look down on the list to see it

Hard drive
you can skimp on til later when you can afford a better one (buy cheapest one)
Case
Buy cheapest 1 for now
Total $525 plus a hard drive and case. You will come to around $600 with those and can upgrade them later. I think that you will be much more happy with this setup. It will actually last for the next 5 years.

In terms of how long a computer will last, no one can say. In one year some crazy technology may come out and outdate everything right away. Not trying to be a troll or anything, just saying that we have no way of saying how long a computer will last in terms of technology.

Not bad, but like the above post said, get the 750 PSU. Down the road you can throw in some more RAM and get a SSD.
