Cooling system for Asus P8Z68-V PRO

Hello everybody

OK so being a total newbie at building my own rig but able to read carefully, I've decided to upgrade my current system that was custom built for me 3 years ago.

I have the case, power supply, optical drives, video card, sound card from the existing system and have been searching for a new motherboard CPU and memory upgrade and cooling system.

My previous mobo was Maximus Extreme which was so big it almost filled the entire case and meant I couldn't use the bottom 3 SATA inputs which were inconveniently fitted on the edge with inputs horizontal and right next to a chunky metal bezel on the case that the "pc specialist " company who built the rig had fitted with the mobo.

I don't want to make the mistake of getting stuff that won't fit in my case.



existing components are :-

housed in Black Aluminium Trigon Case

1) 700W Quiet Quad Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan

2) ASUS SILENT KNIGHT II PURE COPPER ULTRA COOLER

3) Creative Sounblaster Xtreme Music Card

4) NVidia GeForce 9600 GT

5) LG HL-DT-ST-BD-RE BH10LS30 and GGW-H20L

I want to add the following


1) Asus P8Z68-V PRO Intel Z68 mobo ( 2.5 cm smaller than the maximus )

2) Intel Sandybridge i7-2600K Unlocked (with arctic thermal paste)

3) Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8 8GB 1600MHz CL8 DDR3 Vengeance

The one element I am unsure of is the fan system to use. I do not intend to overclock to insane extremes as I am not a gamer. I have seen this one :-
Cooler Master V6GT CPU Cooler
which is compatible with the 1155 socket but am unsure as to whether the mobo will allow enough clearance for it to fit correctly.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions ?

you can look at this thread. there are recommendations lower in the thread for coolers that are just as, or cooler than the V6 with more height for clearances.

Thanks , I appreciate that. Think I'll go for the Thermalright MUX 120 Black.
Just hope it fits OK on the mobo , not the clearance (that doesn't seem to be the issue ) but I've heard that connector pins on the asus mobo heatsink can be a real pain.
