Hi was going to buy a 3d monitor but i have a amd 5870 and was wondering does it support 3d? if not do i have to save for a nvidia card?
Cheers in advance.

AMD cannot do 3D. A 5870 would choke if it could do 3D anyway. Save up for an Nvidia card AND a monitor that will run 3D (see nvidia website for supported monitors).

If the monitor has hdmi 1.4 it should work with AMD cards, but the 5870 doesn't have an hdmi 1.4 port, but the included dvi to hdmi adapter may work.

Granted, NVIDIAs support is MUCH MUCH better. But with the right monitor and driver...

5870 would probably be fine if you turn down the eye candy. It has the vRAM, but not the horsepower.

AMD can do 3d Ive seen it looking nice in person. The system I saw it on was running eyefinity 2gb 6950 which is just a tad faster than your 5870. The newer card may have better support though regardless of raw power.
