.wav files can also have tags which can be removed or edited, just like .mp3 files.

If they have tags - other applications may use their tags instead of .wav file names. What is the best freeware program to edit .wav file tags?

I think they're called RIFF tags (as opposed to mp3 ID3 and flac/ogg APE). Is there any reason you must keep them as wave files? You could easily convert them to flac, lose no quality, and have a much easier tag format to deal with.

Also, for reference purposes, a wave file is not necessarily a sound file. The format provides support for a very wide frequency range and a huge number of channels.

My car stereo only recognizes mp3 and wav - not flac. Yes I use mp3 in my car but sometimes I edit wavs and have no extra 10 seconds to spare to convert them just for testing

Also, flac tags can be edited using http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html which edits mp3s and flacs.

It would be a terrible idea for me to spend my time converting b/w flacs and wav. Mathematically flac does not equal wav, right? You meant to say the loss is negligible, right? But I have zero need to save space when 2TB drives are 5x dollars.

So where's a wav tag remover? I hate to open each one of them > remove tags > save.

No, FLAC is lossless. The idea was to have an easily editable tag format; saving space would just be a beneficial side effect :)

There are hundreds upon hundreds of threads on this very topic on the internet and none have the actual answers, each filled with posts from people not knowing the difference between .mp3 and .wav.

installs a Windows Explorer right click menu.

So you select multiple .wav files > right click > AudioShell > Multi files Tag Editor > CHECK and Clear all Tags > Save

Second beta for v2.75 out today finally removes all bugs and is a fully functional wave file tag editor in a way that no other ones were until today... so as of today, there finally is a way to do handle wave tags in exactly the same way as we handled .mp3 tags all these years...

My entire 500 CD collection is now on these... uncompressed!
