My transcoding rig is a Core i7 920 oc'd to 3ghz with 6gb ram. I'm thinking about doing a rebuild using the middle of the orad LGA 2011 cpu. Is anyone using a LGA 2011 rig for transcoding? I can do a HD video in 3-6 hours depending on the video using Megui. I'm betting one of the LGA 2011 CPUs will do the job is less than half the time. With LGA 2001 MB costing $280 and up and the CPU costing $600 if I can even find one it is an expsensive upgrade.

thanks,

Rob

I think a cheap Asrock Z68 Extreme 3 motherboard with a 2600K (which would set you back a total less than 500), with say, a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ Cooler on it would do you a better job. Quicksync is better for all this.. And it is NOT available on the 2011 CPU.

I believe you'd find this not only faster but cheaper. Hope this helps.

EDIT: This is assuming the program you use supports quicksync...
