Currently got a 940 x4 and am thinking of upgrading to a bulldozer.looked at the PC Mark benches and the x4 is quicker than the x6.Or do i go to the 8120??.keep hearing good things then a ton of micky taking from AMD fans.going to do it on a sabertooth [ASUS] mobo with 16 gb of corsair vengeance and go to 64bt instead of 32 bt on my windows 7.gpu will be a ATI Radeon HD 6850 1GB.with my 1tb samsung spinpoint HD..so i guess my question is 4 ,6 or 8 cores lol??i game and oc.[cooling a corsair hydro h80

If you're willing to spend the money, go for one of the 8 cores. If you want to stay on a budget, get the quad core. If you want to go in-between, go for the 6 cores. The 8 cores are better than the 6 core, and the 6 core is better than the 4 core, but the 4 core is still a decent processor for this day in time. The 6 and 8 cores are probably more future-proof. If you are into overclocking then you can get more out of more cores, but don't forget you'll need more cooling. If you are willing to wait, then I'd suggest waiting for Piledriver as they will be better and more optimized than Bulldozer is.

The quad core, although it's 3.6GHz just like the 8 core, can only handle half of the threads that the 8 core can. The "turbo mode" has a greater gain on the 8 core as well, but you'll be turning that off if you're overclocking it.
 
Just make sure that you put the old CPU in the new MB and update to the latest bios before you put the FX in it. ONLY the latest bios supports the FX processors.
