Welcome to PROJECT MAUL.

DarthMaul2.jpg

I recently purchased the black version of the corsair 600T, and whilst I love this case, I find that the white leds in it, are... somewhat boring and too bright.

So, Ive decided to do a custom lighting system for my case, Using.... Yup, you got it, RED led's.

But. I will not just be switching out the fans. No. That would be a pretty boring way to do it. Instead, Im going to be custom wiring leds for each fan so that I can turn them on and off from a control panel im going to mount to my desk. Im also going to be Modding my Xbox PC Controller with some new leds, and a custom paint job.

Last off, Im going to be doing some custom wiring for my psu using red braiding and black heatshrink.

This is my first try at any wiring, having minimum experience with a soldering iron or sleeving, I'm going to be sure to take my time and research proper techniques.

Its taken me a while to get started into this, but there has been slight progress. A nice parcel arrived for me today, which included some very nice tools. and another graphics card.

^^ These tools were amazingly easy to use. However, The overall results werent great, mainly, me having never used either heatshrink or Braided before, i think im needing some more practice.

Does anyone have any recommendations on good braiding? ive heard the mdpc stuff is amazing, but is there any other brands around???

Thanks for reading.

So after opening up my second 768mb gtx460 I purchased from fleebay, I discovered it was not actually a 768mb as advertised, but instead the 1Gb version. Now i thought, great, no issues there. But then I was to find out you cant sli these cards by normal means.

So I went around searching and came across a program called coolbits. Its a registry edit, which basicly, from what ive worked out, disables the extra ram on the gfx card, basicly turning it into a 768mb and allowing me to sli them both as 768mb.

Here's a quick benchmark I ran through a few games.

If you notice, I seem to get a severe frame drop in brink on the sli, which makes no sense to me, and battlefield 3, will drop to 24fps in vehicles on the single player only. But at no other point drops below 65. Bit Confused as to why, if anyone has any ideas, id much appreciate them.

Just time to add a few pictures.

And outside the case.

God thing with the way i have wired these LED's is that I can Turn down the fans without the lights going down too. Also, I plan to make a molex adapter up which will connect to an external control box, with a few pilot switches and a "Go baby go" button, similar to the one on the gearstick of the Eleanor shelby gt500 in gone in 60 seconds.

Started working on my xbox controller mod today.

My rumble unit on the left hand side was broken after a drop, so I had to replace it, and thought that seen as I had it apart, i might as well add a few other additions.

Red buttons, And a clear bottom section and triggers.

The shell of the controller is getting a new paintjob in the next week or so.

More updates soon, Thanks for reading.

Its been a while as ive not had a great amount of free time due to uni work, but i think its time i gave a bit of an update on this current project.

About a week ago, i was visiting a friend from uni, and seen lying at his front door a samsung syncmaster 2494HS, which is a damn good screen IMO.

He told me it was broken and when i asked what was wrong he said he never knew, but it turned on for a split second then would cut out. So i done some reasearch and found out that the power board in these monitors would blow after a while due to samsung using cheap components on them.

The Screen Now on my desk :-

A few extra spots of damage:-

A quick go with a soldering iron, Never done anything this precise before:-

And another fix which i never got a photo of before i fixed it:-

I have the new powerboard on way from china, so it should be here in the next few days.

Hopefully.

You said that the Frame rate is dropping? If i am not mistaken its because your running out of ram the 580 had the same problem i think that's the reason they released the 580 3gb because the 1.5 gb was to low. So that's my 2 cents i might be wrong but i am pretty sure that's what it is. Also nice job on your sli you got almost 2X the proformance

thanks, and yeah, most likely, i am technically only running 768mb of ram, which would cause that problem. And yeah, the sli took alot of tweaking to get such good frame rates out of it.

Thank you!

After multiple hours soldering away, ive got the screen working, Heres a quick pic from my phone

Sorry its been a while with updates.

Done a few bits and bobs to the case. Nothing too much.... ;)

My setup was moved to my acrylic bench rig to continue folding for CHIMP CHALLENGE! If your not folding for us already, please see here

So this arrived in the mail about a week ago now. A "240" rad. Biggest darn 240 rad I have seen. Damn people on eBay mislabelling things.

So firstly. The radiators went in. There a 120 and 280mm magicool slim Radiator. Was on a tight budget for this water cooling build, however, I plan to expand it in future.

The waterblock, Pump and tubing were installed on the motherboard.

Prep For leak testing :- tested for 5 hours. No leaks. Left for another 3 hours. No leaks. System install took around 2 hours. Still no leaks.

Gpu's Installed

System Fully rebuilt :)
20120517_203412.jpg

This has made the whole build so much more quiet than when I was running the h100. it also loads at 50C at 4.4ghz @1.35V
The Red leds on the fan have also been rewired to the fan.

More to follow.

Its a 280 rad. Thats what I said further up about it being mislabelled. It wont fit at the top. And there is currently 1 140mm antec true quiet fan attached in the drive bay. That's how its currently mounted. The fan is mounted to the rad. The fan is zip tied to the drive bays.

So now that the system is water cooled, Ive decided I wanted to get backplate for my gtx460's. However, everywhere ive looked they have been out of stock, or the wrong fit. (non-ref cards) So ive decided to make some of my own out of acrylic, and mount them on small stand offs to allow air to pass under them.

My first attempt all worked well.... almost. The screw holes were ever so slightly out of alignment so it made the acrylic sit at a weird angle, But I've ordered more acrylic but here is what i got from my first design and trial.

Also used a slight offcut to use for my sli bridge ;)
