Bitlocker and formatting HDD

Is it possible to take a HDD that;s bit lockered, pull it from the system and do a format or secure-erase?

I don't care to access the data on the drive, just be able to re-use the HDD later.

Certainty. Bitlocker only manipulates the contents of the disk, not the disk itself; TPM or not. So formating an encrypted drive is no problem at all.
