To go back on topic, the 3820 OC very well, as it's the X79 platform and you can OC through BCLK.

It might be a bottleneck@stock (3.6GHz! and I don't even think it will be) with a 680SLI or 7970xFire
But I agree, a 2500K with a z77 MoBo is a better choice: Cheaper and as effective (gaming wise).

You want the x79 only if you plan a 6 cores/12 threads upgrade in the future, and want the quad channel DDR3.
 
Sorry to get off topic mate.... All I'm getting at as this setup is most definitely clearer and sound better than my Xonar DX, to my ears at least, and at a lower cost.
