Sup Guys,

I know its a fairly noob question but i just wanted to ask if any ones got any recommendations for increasing speed in windows 7, preferably boot times and application load times.

Last night i decided to RAID-0 with two 80 SATA II 7200 RPM WD's, i have seen slight increase in speed, but im sure there is more i can do...

my PC has 16GB of DDR3 memory, can i disable all caching on my HDD's?

I have also set within "MSCONFIG" under Boot> Advanced options > Number of processors> "6" (i have 6 cores)

what else can be done to increase speed and performance of Win 7 x64

Regards,
Spliffie

Why would you want to disable HDD write-caching? And manually changing the "Number of processors" value in the System Config. utility (adding the NUMPROC=[value] entry in your BCD) for faster boot times is a myth.

Well, nothing you have done really helped...LOL.

That said, for boot:

1. Go in to the bios and disable anything you dont need.
1a. Using R0 likely increased your boot times a bit due to the RAID loading.
2. Go in to MSCONFIG and uncheck all you dont want to start up.
3. Buy SSD's.

For application startup:

1. Buy an SSD.

Ok cool thanx... And in windows write caching is disabled by default on the raid drive... Should I enable?

i see type os you use it hase main role for speed
