I'm in the market for buying myself a graduation present, but I'm having trouble trying to decide which card to get. I have 3 monitors at 1920x1080 (only 2 running atm, have GTX 460 currently) and I think I want to give ATI a try for a single card solution to running all 3 monitors.

I was looking at the XFX DD line of cards and am debating either going R7870 with room for Crossfire, the R7950 with possible room for Crossfire, or the R7970.

I'm currently leaning towards the 7870 since it nearly matches the 7950 in many of the benchmarks, but I was worried about how the 3GB of VRAM on the 7950 would really help on an Eyefinity setup. The 7870 also has Dual-DVI so I wouldn't need to buy adapter cables.

I don't really have a set budget, I'm more just looking for the most cost effective solution to run my setup. Thanks for any input!

hey mate Great to hear your hopping on the tri screen setup, I currently use the Asus HD7970, and this card is brilliant for a 3 screen setup, and no need for crossfire.

I actually play BF3 on it in eyefinity and with most settings on High - ultra i get about 40-45 fps. and with the use of msi afterburner(Over clocking software) i sometimes just raise my clock speed a little bit for that extra punch.

with the 7950 only costing ~50-60 more its worth it for an eyefinity setup.

If you did not have 3 1080p monitors I would say your fine with 7870 and 2GB of ram.

just me .02 cents

when you get your new card, the 7970 and the 7950 its best you shy away from HDMI, it just seems the colour spectrum isnt as good, for mine i use
1 x displayport
1 x DVI
1 x displayport to DVI

and i have a 4th pluged in, and thats the sony bravia (HDMI), but even this gets a much better picture when i use VGA cables.

I couldn't wait any longer as I wanted to make the purchase on Monday. I went ahead and got the 7950 because of the 3GB VRAM and the sale price (Sale ended Monday). I also got 2 Active DP-DVI adapters so everything is running smoothly.

Even if I didn't get a chance to read it before I made my purchase, thanks for all the input! At least the replies seem to look like I made the right choice, haha.
