Crossing fingers...IF my mobo arrives in time I'll race with my 2600k on air,bought it new so I still don't know the oc potential it has. Let's hope it's no dud!

even at stock, a 2600K will produce a good amount of points.... out of interest, can the fah clients use the multithreading bonus the 2600 has over the 2500?
 
The smp projects will use all cores that the BIOS identifies as real - including HT cores, if it's turned on. FAH does not use virtual cores, unless you have the software to handle that.

I will post pics later, but I am going to be running:

3770K @stock since I am out of coolers.
i7 870 @ 3.8
3930k @stock for now (currently being put together, hopefully 4.5 before the race)
~EDIT: also a 1055T @ stock~

Then a 7870 and gtx 680 if I can get them to cooperate. If i can't then I will run my gts 250's.

@ivanlabrie: Even if it just overclocks to 4.0, which about 90% of them will, it will race well.

For sure:

2600k at 4.2 to 4.5 (we'll see what it likes).
FX-8150 at 4 to 4.4 (see previous).
3870K at 3.0 to who knows (see above).

Possible:

3770k at I have no idea.
3750k at I don't know on this one, either.

Only FAH capable GPU I have is a thrice baked GTX280, I seriously doubt that it'd survive more than a day or two of FAH.
 
Got my 3770k folding, it hit 4GHz with stock voltage on stock cooler. temps aren't too bad.

If we want to achieve maxiumum ppd for this race, we may need to start recommending folks switch away from the v7 client for smp folding. Baxter is making 15,000 ppd on a rig capable of making twice that. THe v7 client tends to attract core a4 WUs at a far higher rate than v6 in either windows or Linux and as a result v7 averages far less ppd. Max ppd is VMware/Linux/6.34 with either v7 or 6.41 for the GPUs.

V7 is easy to set up, but it does not provide near the same ppd on average. A 2600K at stock will average over 20,000 ppd in a VM/Linux setup. At 4.8 GHz, it'll go 36,000+ ppd. I suppose the 3770K should be no worse than the 2600K clock for clock. It may be too much to ask for someone new to folding though.

On Baxter's rig, the AMD gpu is killing smp production. Running -smp 6 would net more ppd than running on all cores. My q9450 @ 3.4 GHz running a VMware/Linux/v6.34without a GPU folding is making more ppd than his 3770K and it shouldn't be close.
 
Would it be better to not run my GPU's? or should I run them on my i7 870 or 1055t rig and only fold the GPU's?
 
AMD GPUs use all of one core which really hammers smp production. Pause the gpu slot on the 3770K and see what happens to the tpf of the SMP WU. That will help decide. I decided never to run gpus on my 2600Ks and they were nVidia gpus using only a fraction of the cpu resources, but knocked almost as much off the smp instance as they added.

On a lesser rig like my aforementioned q9450, turning on the gpus (GTX260 and 9800GTX) knocks 2300 ppd off the SMP instance, which is almost 24%, even though cpu resource usage is less than 5% for the two of them. Of course the two GPUs together add 14,700 ppd, for a net of 12,400 ppd.
 
That would be good info to have. I stopped folding on gpu's after a few months - a couple years back now. The noise and heat was too much for the slight amount of points. (These were 2 GTX-260's)
