Hey guys...

Just came into about 35 AM2 CPU's...

Looking for a board to bench AM2... One major requirement though... Has to have SATA.

Don't know much about AMD, and even less about older AMD.

So what were the good boards for AM2 Benching?

Thanks!

For AM2, I'd be looking for a good ref clock board I think. I'm not the most familiar though, I'd look for input from others. That will give you the most leg room when doing subzero on locked multiplier AMD chips. For unlocked multi chips, any board with good power delivery will do.

Just looking at refclock, boards you may be interested in...

Are these am2 cpus of the pre phenom2 variety? If so, a 790x giga is not what you need. Mine was horrible on k8 stuff.

I have one of these dfi's and they seem to cope pretty well and the voltage menu is pretty extensive to say the least :D

For AM2 straight up, not AM2+, you either need a 790x-ud4/ud4p (with voltmod), or something older.
I have a UD4P, voltage caps at 1.5v without mods.

Be prepared for cold bugs if you have a bunch of Brisbanes and as far as 790x boards go I would not recommmend one for AM2. It was really geared towards post K8 chips. If it were me I'd pick up something with a 590 chipset such as a M2N32-SLI Deluxe or a DFI LANPARTY UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G.

The 590 chipset was much more mature as far as K8 goes.

To add to that you really don't need a huge FSB as you are going to either limited by the architecture of K8 and/or cold bug or have an unlocked multplier in the case of the X2 5000 BE and X2 6400 BE. It is spectacular to reach 4.0GHz with a locked AM2 and pretty damn good with an unlocked ones so you want features and stability in a AM2 board over a huge FSB.

Yep... From the little research of done... Most of these are Brisbane.

Sounds like I need to do some research as to if I even wanna mess with it. Cold bugs make me MADDDDD.

For $20 bucks for the whole box of CPU's though... I couldn't pass it up.
