So if you have adaptive V-Sync off. In-game you have v-Sync on. Locks at a maximum of monitors refresh rate. When your frames drop below refresh rate doesn't your GPU usage instantly go up anyway? So when your cruising at 60fps your GPU usage is normal lets say 50% but when it drops to 45 FPS the GPU kicks to 100% or in some cases with my new 660ti I get 103%.
