I have 1 6950 for sale, waiting to see whats up with the 8900s

But what are some thoughts on 7950 3GB cf vs 670 2GB sli for 2560x1440

Either will be plenty powerful for that resolution. I'm running a single 2GB 680 on that same resolution with zero problems.

If I had to buy today I get the gigabyte 670 @950 based on what I've read in 2 days.

7950 3 GB is better deal.

Performance from both GPUs are pretty much equal (plus minus 5%, unable to be noticed) , but 7950 should be cheaper and its higher RAM is adding even more value (useful for resolution above 1080P).

However, how much difference in performance depends on OC. The 7950 got in theory higher potency to OC (higher memory bandwith which is useful), and with some luck can surely reach comparable performance such as a 670 GTX.

Usualy Nvidia is a safe bet and AMD is for those who enjoy using a dice. With some luck they can get out even more performance at lower cost, but thats not granted, thats a dice.

one problem is most of the 7950 reviews I've seen are from January

Those are updated, new 12.8 drivers bring a big performance boost.
Check the latest 7970 review posted here for comparison...compare that to old 7970 reviews, there's a big improvement there. Also, the ghz edition at 1ghz start to beat nvidia's cards at those clocks.
Higher resolutions work best with a 7950/70 but a 670/80 is perfectly fine in the end.

I'd reccomend it if you want the absolute best, or you wanna bench with it. Other than that it's preference in the end.
For example, I bought a gtx670 ftw, instead of a 7970 cause it was a good deal. 7950's go for low prices nowadays, and so do the discounted ref 7970's you see here and there. (as low as $315)

interesting, thats one hell of an OC on the asus 670 @ 1315MHz, aren't 670s 915 stock. The most likely 670 I would get (if and when) is the gigabyte @ 950, low price and seems to run cool and quiet compared to most others, but not as cool/quiet as the more expensive asus though
