Hey guys,

I am very curious as to why on earth my 3D Mark scores (free version P scores) are slower with my new HD7970 then what my HD6950 use to produce?

My HD6950 overclocked would score around 9000, when i had GTx590, i was in the 9400 range.

I just ran a test on my HD7970, and got a disappointing 8742?

The only change really is i'v gone from 8Gb ram to 12gb ram and then the HD7970, could this be the ram giving my such a performance drop?
(i sold the old ram, so cant test it with that)

But could it really be?

The score for your 7970 is comparable to most reviews - about 100 points higher on your side of things.

GTX590 is typically around 9000, and I'm shocked you had a single HD6950 scoring in the 9000 range - you sure that wasn't two??

Just for comparison, my GTX 670 FTW scores 9090 points.

Maybe i remember wrong, i wish i had kept the scores written down, but im sure my GTx590 score in 9300 range. I would have thought the 7970 would be above 9000, but hey, thats how it is.

With 12.11 drivers and my 2600K at 5Ghz, I get P10465 with my MSI 7970 lighting at stock. When I overclock it, I get P11428 marks.
With your CPU/GPU at stock clocks, that looks like a normal score. Even overclocking your cpu/gpu a bit will really up your score.

And, you can see the scores I got here (scroll down to the 12.11b4 results):http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=719370

EDIT: And there's no way a single 6950 should be able to get that high of a score, so you may be remembering wrong.
With my 2600K at 5.4Ghz and a 6970 overclocked, I got to around P8500 marks.

Yeh i must be remembering 8000 as 9000, cos the GTx590 scored 9300ish.

If you want the show-off scores, you need to use CCC and disable Tessellation. That's only used in HWBot benching though. For proper eye candy (and for reviews we write), I always leave Tessellation at the default CCC setting.

As mentioned, your score is about right for a stock 7970; nothing to worry about. There's no way a 6950 scored anywhere near 9000. Probably less than 6000 is my guess.

6000, dont kid lol, if i hadnt overclocked it too far i would redo it, but it was with different mobo/cpu and ram setup, plus nice oc on the 6950, and i was around the 8000s properly, my mind just playing tricks, since the lastest test i ran was with GTx590 scoring around 9300.

EDIT
Was able to dig out my GTx590 score.

with my 6950 flashed and oc to 950mhz . my gpu score was around 5600 . i carnt see a 6950 in the 8000s either .

Reaching 6000 with a 6950 was a challenge and i dont see the score going much higher than that unless its some LN2 stuff, but not on air. So it was more like 6000 points and in no way 9000.

A 7970 can easely run into the 10 000 range, so in that case its competing with a 6990 or 590 GTX (dual cores from previous generation), but it will be about 40% weaker than a 690 GTX as far as i remember (compared with a highly OC 7970 Matrix/DCII). Prehaps the soon to be released 8970 may come very close to the 690 GTX when OC, so its surely not worth it to get a GTX 690 at that point, unless someone want to waste money because the Radeon will cost half of that and may reach almost same performance in many terms.

My memory must be asleep.. But oh well, if the scores are like they should be, then all is good i presume.

Replacing my 2x OCZ 2Gb rams stick today with some 1333Mhz.

Why 1333mhz ram ? I would go with 1600mhz+

Ivy can run 2400mhz + on avg.

It also helps in 3dmark11 score higher mem speed

I ran with stock 3770k 1600mhz ram 7970@ 1050/1500 scored 10k

Im looking at buying Corsair Vengence 1866Mhz, or 2133Mhz (but they dont come in black :( ) So im looking at 16gb 2x8 Vengence 1866Mhz.

Reason for getting 2x 2gb to replace my OCZ, so all are running 1333, until i buy new. I already have 1x2gb 1333mhz, and the other is free, so its not a money loss, its just a getting all same speeds ram situation. The 2x4gb kingston normally run in my HTPC.
