Hi guys,

Here's something to test your rig to the limits ... :) I know many of you are sci-fi fans and gamers, and you people generally have the above than average PC to run games with too. Myself, I've just upgraded my PC and that was fortunate, because I stumbled upon a new game in development the other day:

Star Citizen

Youtube video:
(there are many more like this on Youtube)

This is something I have been waiting for since the Wing Commander series. It's a new space simulator game for PC, from Chris Roberts, the man who made Wing Commander! This nothing like you've seen before. It'll use the CryEngine 3 and have 10x more details compared to other AAA games. The game will be a single player with about 40 missions from the start, and a multiplayer online universe where you can freely fly around doing what you want! I'm very excited myself and have already signed up. LOL!

I've blogged about Star Citizen here: http://petosiris.blogspot.no/2012/11/star-citizen.html

It's worth taking a look at! :D

A game like this better support head tracking and better FOV then what was in the video.

Btw, I think this should be in the Game discussion sub-forum.

yea i posted about this game, my thread got sent to page 2. a few of us are hoping they will be able to get the game on linux.

It does support head tracking. You can use a joystick or keyboard to look around, or even the Oculus Rift VR glasses.

EDIT: Just want to add that all who pledge before Nov. 19 will get access to alpha and beta versions.

That Oculus looks great. I hope its as good as it says and priced well. Seeing that the dev kit is only $300, I would think a consumer version would be around the same or cheaper.

I was, though, talking more about current head tracking via TrackIR. I'm sure something can be done to make it work even if the game doesn't have native support, but of course, native support would be the best.

Big news today! Early pictures of the Constellation ship, which you can fly and bring 3 friends as shipmates if you want! It has a bedroom, shower, dining room, and its own small fighter too! Players can walk inside the ship, dine and chat with each other. The ship itself is a flying fortress with lots of guns and missiles, although maneverable anyway.

PS: Only three more days to secure your copy of the aplha & beta!

So considering this.,.. I'm not into Space sim's like this but I love what the dev's are doing and look at the support they have gotten! Its so exciting to see something like this pre-sale over 3 million!

I'm just happy to see the community coming together for these guys

@ Pvt.Dancer: It's gaining followers fast now and is already past $3.9 million. It will brake the record of the highest amount of crowdfunding ever for a computer game. Project Eternity got $3.98M and Star Citizen will get past $4M.

Space sims are a forgotten genre which people like me loved in the '90s. Chris Roberts, the man behind Wing Commander, Privateer, and Freelancer, is determined to bring back this type of game -- on the PC, which seems to be a forgotten platform soon too!

Star Citizen will get unprecedented level of immersion in a computer game. When this is released two years from now, it will be a revolution in gaming. So don't miss out the chance to get the alpha and beta! :)

... only 70 hours left of crowdfunding campaign now. Afterwards, prices will go up a bit on ships etc., but the current special pledge rewards won't be available after Nov. 19.

Before you wrote this I already put down $60 for them which is a stretch but I want to support them and I will play the game to try it but mostly I just wanted to donate to a company that is doing so much for the PC platform.

But don't forget there are games like Planet side 2 that are doing good things for the PC as well and is PC only. Dev's like ID who (After releasing RAGE) Said they will never develop a game on a console first it will go PC then move it to Consoles. So I think PC's are going to make a nice come back we are just in a sad slump with all the people trying to be like Activision and make the next COD.

Yes, I also beleive in the PC platform for games. One thing is for sure, it's not easy to expand a game console with more graphic power ... PC's are easy to expand. Star Citizen will have about 10 times the number of polygons to render as current games. The graphic card technology in two years will make that possible though. Today, you'll need two highend graphic cards to run Star Citizen. Chris Roberts is testing the game with two GTX680's.

Good thing I got this 690 then ;) and we also have to remember that there is little to no optimization in the systems yet either which I'm sure will get better. and yes the tech in the engine and everything else they are putting out there is amazing.

Reminds of when I saw the Soft body physics that this small company was working on in the Cryengine 3 I would love to see that implemented in this game. If I can find the video I'll link it in here.

EDIT: Here is the newest update from Beam NG they are working on this. and this was the original video they put out. Anyways point being what they are doing impressed me like this did.

Thanks for the links. I hadn't seen the newest one. Chris Roberts (CR) has said that there will be visible impacts on ships, but I don't know if that'll include soft body physics. Knowing a little about CR now, I would expect it sooner or later! :)

That's great. Will see you in the universe then maybe. :) I have pledged all too much, but I'm really crazy about this game!

The project has now passed $4 million and the pace is picking up! If we reach $4.5M we'll get all the stretch goals from the Kickstarter page too. Already CR has put in a lot of goals, thanks to everybody that has pledged.

Good news for you now, Mpegger! TrackIR will be native supported in Star Citizen if we reach the stretch goal of $1.75M on Kickstarter (KS) OR $4.5M in total (KS + RSI). Chris Roberts said that he'd include all KS stretch goals if the project got $4.5M or more. Not only will TrackIR be supported, but also MFD displays, flight chairs, multiple monitors, and the Oculus Rift as mentioned before. It's also confirmed that controls like the HOTAS joysticks, separate truster controls, and rudder pedals are already supported. Chris Roberts uses those now when he is testing the game.

You can see some of the hardware that's supported here (pics taken from a recruitment campaign):
