I got more SSD's, have 3 in the rig. Currently testing with the 840 taken out, seems to have solved the random crashes and freezing, but need to test more, as there were no problems on Satureday, where I did a bunch of Benchmarking and also had a 3 hour session of something as demanding as Theme Hospital.

The symtons have a lot in common with the failing SSD i had in my laptop.

Put it like this, i tried a format, got windows installed, tried to access the 840 ssd, could get into a few folders, and suddenly it locked up and froze.
Then i unplugged all drives, and only had the 840 plugged in, Windows refused to install, froze while loading the booter, and after that once i did get into the installer, i froze 15% into copying files to the SSD. Plugged med Evo 120 as only drive, and everything went butter smooth.

EDIT:

Yeah sounds like its going slowly have you got any warranty left on that drive, i know some have 3 years and more now days! A question i want to ask you, have you ever set up a RAID 0 on your set up, and did it make any difference?? Was it faster than a single SSD on its own, the reason i ask is i have the option here to have a Raid 0 on my new Laptop.

THIS IS WHAT I CAN HAVE IN STORAGE! ;)

If you scroll down you can see what is possible!

From what i have been reading it seems to help with Games and Benchmarks to the point of increasing your overall scores! So please come back to me Pierre on that one with your experiences thanks!

Ajay.

The 840 was bought without warranty, it was unused, but guy had lost the invoice. So its a total loss after only about 1 year. But i did get it cheap.

I have not done Raid 0, because of the lack of back up and high risk in loss of data, its just not worth it, and the speed gained as far as i know is minimal. Better off getting a larger size single disk.

That is 2 people said the same thing now about that, so i am looking to buy a larger 1 TB Msata to put in here for a long term situation the other thing is to up grade the THERMAL PASTE and the THERMAL SHEETS on the Mosfets etc. From the testing and Benching i have been doing, its the HASWELL that gets the hottest in a short space of time, so cooling that better is a must!

So i should end up with 1 Msats 1TB for OS and programmes with Benchmarks, and a 500GB second for all the other things i wish to keep.

With that the laptop should be well set up for now and the future as well Pierre, hope you get that set up running sweet and can say your happy, so see you later i have some things to do here.

Regards,

Ajay.

P.S. If it was me and my rig i would do this!!

This one near the CPU SOCKET as my best GPU!

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/9343426

And this one as my SLAVE GPU!!

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/9343365

That way you would have your strongest helping the other GPU and it would help to balance things out! You could get a better SLI result but that is your choice if your happy leave alone.

That is how they are sitting, best one on top, issue is, the best one, has the lowest ASIC, 68%, but im not bothered, i will get waterblocks in 2 weeks time, and then i have a bunch of work to be done, since my loop is still making algie, so its going to get a mayhems clean now, and everything will be sorted, new tubes for the waterblocks and that.

I think we already said lower ASIC better for WC and higher ASIC for AIR if i remember! So that should work out well hopefully once you have those under WC, just run the same benchmark at the same settings. Then we can see if there is any difference with the blocks fitted Pierre.

Ajay.

sorry to jump in here been following but not replying lol. Cant wait to see it done. But just to make sure I'm understanding ya Ajay57 you mean put the lower asci card first and the higher second?? like my 7970's one is 80 the other 63.6. the 80 being the primary card in slot 1. Didn't plan it this way just stuck them in and went lol.

OK SIN no problem its a 6 of one and half a dozen of the other answer, if you are to WC then your strongest or best scoring card should be supporting the not so good one!

No doubt everyone and there dog would give you there own version and nothing is written in stone its what works for you to gain the best SLI SCORE of all.

That is why Pierre tested each card in slot one with the same settings on both to found out which was doing the best score, its just a basic idea as to which card goes where and to check they are working properly.

As it say's on the tin its just a way to look at ASIC QUALITY and how it works under different conditions!

That is either going to give a monster result or burst into flames :).

BTW S_I_N. I just noticed you have a similar setup to me, same Mobo / SSD. I'm setting up my Raid 0 now w/ my HyperX 3K's, how did you like it? Did having it in raid worth the difference?

performance wise I'd say you wont notice alot different from a siingle ssd to raided ssd's. Benching yeah you see the difference. I do it more for shear laziness lol. This way I dont have to tell programs what drive to install on it all goes on the raid lol.

When you end up with epic failure of the SSD like my 840 (which suddenly seems to work fine??) then you lose all you data.

I would rather go 250gb than 2x 120 and 500 over 2x 250gb, another point is, its cheaper to go with single SSD.

I have placed a bunch of small orders to put the finishing touch on the rig. Gonna keep my cards close on this one, and see how it works out.

Blah, so no amazing boot time boost? :(. Oh well.

Looking forward to seeing the new parts arriving soon to finally finish the mammoth build Pierre, i hope you had more success than the testing @ Jerez with F1 lol! ;)

Ajay.

Yeah things look really nice and yes i like XSPC Backplates as well stylish, so do we have the TIM ready and the new Mosfet & VRM Pads hope so! Next we will be seeing the final results and all plumb in with no leaks dare i say Pierre.

Ajay.

P.S. Getting close now!
