Ages ago, I saw that someone ran a test on which R9 series will CFX with certain 7000 series cards.

That said, I have a buddy with a 7850, and i want to get him a GPU for CFX as a bday present.

Will 270 and 270X CFX with his current 7850?
 
I am pretty sure they can since they are similar as was mentioned above. However, to be sure, grab the same exact card.
 
I think TTL mentioned they are compatible at some point, could be wrong though. IIRC however the 7850 and 7870 were CFXable.
 
AMD put them in the same section on the website R9270/270X and looking at clocks it looks like 7850 and 7870

I recall the 7850 doesn't have a direct rebrand. The 270 is a standard 7870 and the 270x is basically a ghz edition 7870.. Because oc the 270 and the 270x to a similar clock and you have the same type of performance. The 7850 was still a slower card.

That said yeah they can probably be xfired but I would still just err on the safe side and grab a 7850 as EarthDog mentioned.
