Hey OC'ers,

Santa's little shippers left a nice bundle of joy on my front steps today so I'll be putting together a build log over this weekend and maybe into the next work depending on time/shipping. This is named for the tiny orange and black beast that will be. Sadly though, all of my parts showed up sans cooler so the actual build will be delayed a few days :) With a help of a few of the members the parts list is as follows:

EVGA Hadron air mitx case
Intel i5-4670k
EVGA 100-FS-C901-KR cooler
Gigabyte GA-Z97N-WIFI
EVGA GTX 770 4gb
8gb G.Skill Ares Low Profile ram (2x 4gb, orange style heatspreaders)
Samsung 840 evo 120gb SSD
Seagate 3tb 7200rpm barracuda HDD

Here a few teaser photos so far, I'll take better pictures once I start building since there wont be as many reflective surfaces and plastic wrap on the case :)

An update to what I have so far, sadly still waiting on my cooler (damn end of day shipping). Things are going well so far though, thankfully I have smaller hands and surprisingly enough patience. Hopefully the 4pin cpu can be reached. I sort of cheated on the cable management (as seen in the first picture) with that one since I opted out of using an internal optical drive.

Alas the building portion is complete. Running some monitors and benchmarks to see how things go. One thing I'm not impressed with are these cougar fans though. They don't seem to push much air, can barely feel much air moving when my hand is against the mesh top part of the case. I'll have to check to see if those fans are actually running at 1200rpm or slower. Last picture is for the luls because I find it pretty frightening to think the new build is leaps and bounds more powerful yet 1/4 the size

:attn: Looks like everything is in tact. Noticed a tiny bit of cosmetic damage to the PSU from the cable connections though. Any advice to touch up the metal?

PM me a picture real quick.

Fast answer: Sharpie (assuming its only a light scratch)

Also wish they had used metal thumb screws instead of these cheap feeling plastic ones.

/Edit

Also my life is just one big boat of irony. The GPU I ordered was marked down $35.00 from two days ago! Hopefully will be able to contact them to see if they can do anything for me. :)

/update

Already received an email reply from Newegg and will be getting a gift card for the difference. Definitely one of the main reasons I prefer Newegg to any other e-tailer, no hassles almost ever.

Another thought I had to add to the look and further show off the black and orange concept was using orange backing inside the case but i wasn't sure I had the right product or the best place to purchase it. I found this off newegg but if anyone could chime in what material I should be looking for if this isn't it would be great :) Obviously must be orange and would prefer nothing reflective.

Just a bit of an update before my cooler arrives. My plans for the build once I ensure all the parts work and fit nicely in the case will be to add a bit of color with carbon vinyl, some small orange or maybe white leds and down the road orange cable extensions at the very least for the gpu. One thing I'm curious about and would like to get some input from is sata connection solution. Any advice, tips, questions, concerns, anecdotes are welcome :) This is my very first build log so bear with me and sadly no high res sexy goodness.

All the pictures are up! Managed to only need the 3 original posts to fit all that part. I'd like to get some input on how things look, any concerns or questions are welcome as well :)

Unless I'm mistaken, won't the CPU cooler be fighting the top fans?

Do you mean pulling in opposite directions? I hope i didn't confuse the orientation. Realizing from your board that the CPU socket is set more in the center (was wondering how you managed such a gap from the top). I meant for the CPU cooler to blow air up and the top fans are doing the same right?

/edit

Or do you mean that the gap between them isnt enough to create good airflow?

If you didn't flip the fan on the heatsink from the way it was facing in the box, then they're going to be pulling opposite directions.

Oi that is quite frustrating to find out after the fact haha. Thank you for letting me know, although if you could travel back in time and let me know again, that would be great

Bring me a time machine and I will :chair:

Haha oh well, c'est la vie. Tomorrow I'll see if i can manage to get this fixed without uprooting everything though I feel as though I may have to.

Ended up needing to take everything back out but it went relatively smoothly. Hardest part was getting the 20+4 pin back in, I really wish it was more than just two tiny clips for the +4 to catch onto :bang head
