Dual OS on SSD

I have a 512gb ssd. I am thinking of installing Win 7 and win 8 on it.
Would shrink win 7 partition and split ssd into 2 partitions. So already running windows 7 any steps I might need to take before I begin?

wouldn't it be better if you VM'd one?
